AfterElton Briefs: Did GLAAD Snub LuRe, a "Facts of Life" Star Comes Out, James Franco Tackles Anne Hathaway, and More!
Happy 46th Birthday to Alan Cumming
- When GLAAD released the nominations for their 22nd Media Awards last week, one category was conspicuously missing: Daily Drama. LoveLure has an in-depth look at the snubbing of the Luke and Reid storyline on As The World Turns.
- The Ruth Institute is not, unfortunately, devoted to honoring the talents of comedy legend Ruth Buzzi, but is an offshoot of NOM. They're running a contest for people to submit videos talking about "real love," and what it means. Heterosexual love, of course. That didn't stop NOM Exposed from making their own video about real love. Spoilier Alert! It has a twist ending.
- You've no doubt heard of the bludgeoning murder of Ugandan gay activist David Kato, but Exodus International board of directors member Don Schmierer is the real victim here: "I spoke to help people, and I’m getting bludgeoned from one end to the other.”
- It's been a veritable Gayplosion on The Oprah Winfrey Show lately, and on Friday's show she'll talk to Fran Drescher and her gay ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson.
- Below you can see the first promo for next month's Academy Awards, featuring James Franco, Anne Hathaway, and a wardrobe malfunction.
- Out former NFL player Esera Tuaolo will sing the national anthem at the Los Angeles Clippers Equality Night next Wednesday.
- Speaking of out sportsmen, The London Standard has an article about ex-footballer Aslie Pitter's journey from the field to being honored at Buckingham Palace.

- Geri Jewell, who played Blair's cousin on The Facts of Life (and was also memorable on HBO's Deadwood) has a memoir coming out titled "I'm Walking As Straight as I Can," which will delve into her struggles to make it in Hollywood, her Cerebral Palsy, and coming out.
- Finally ... I think I'll go back and crawl under the covers and cry some more.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
