AfterElton Briefs: Rebooting "Soapdish," Casting Rachel's Gay Dads, James Franco is Danny Zuko, and More!

Patrick Wolf attends the Shockwaves NME Awards in London

  • Dancing With The Nominal Celebrities won't announce the lineup for the new season until Monday, but they've already proven they're willing to scrape the bottom of the barrel.
  • Below you can see UK singer Jesse J., who is upset because Lady Gaga is making it difficult for "normal" artists to get noticed: "She's literally made normal artists and music boring, which bothers me." Well, I'm not sure going on stage looking like Bride of Pete Burns is "normal," but ... okay.

The zippered crotch may put it a bit over the top

  • Ed mentioned it in the Meme this morning, but now dates have been confirmed for the Broadway run of The Normal Heart. Cheyenne Jackson and company will start previews on April 19th and open on April 27th.
  • I never though I'd take the side of the big Hollywood studios over the little guy, but in this case I'll make an exception.
  • I'm still trying to wrap my head around the news that a remake of the 1991 comedy Soapdish is in the works. With daytime dramas on the skids, I'm not sure how topical this is, unless part of the storyline is the scapegoating of gay characters. Besides, the original was an underrated gem (except for the cheap shots at transgender character Montana Moorehead), and there is no way they'll be able to replace that cast, especially Sally Field and Cathy Moriarity: "She has more lines than I do and she's a God Damn Mute!"
  • Some of the Glee cast weigh in on who should play Rachel's gay dads on the show. I love the idea of Taye Diggs (he's married to Idina Menzel, who played Rachel's mother), and Hugh Jackman.
  • James Franco has his own official YT channel starting today, and below you can see the first vid, which shows him and Oscar co-host Anne Hathaway in a creepy music-box version of Grease. Why? Um ... it's James Franco.
  • .

  • Move over, Gareth and Mickey! Lady Gaga gave a shoutout to Marisa Tomei last night, and said she would love for Marisa to portray her in a biopic. Well, the Oscar winner is over 20 years older than Gaga, so she better make it quick ... Marisa's biological clock is tickin' like dis!
  • Gaga also let fans rest assured that they were getting their money's worth: "I'm not going to waste your time watching some bitch lip-synch her way to an HBO special." Hmm ... who could she have been referring to?
  • Here's one more pic from the NME awards in London. Russell Tovey and his Being Human co-star Lenora Critchlow make a fun couple.
