AfterElton Briefs: "Piranhaconda," A Bevy of Gay Birthdays, Nate Phelps on His Evil Father, and More!

Here's last week's caption pic winner. This week's caption pic is at the bottom of the page.

Thanks to everyone for participating! The winner is ...

That's Justin's little known lesbian twin sister Justine beside him in the plaid.

Thanks to Morgan for this week's winning caption.

  • Happy 64th Birthday to Sir Elton John! Okay, name your top five Elton songs! What's your favorite? "That's What Friends Are For," "Candle in the Wind," "Don't Go Breaking My Heart?" I'll get the ball rolling by naming my top five 80's Elton singles: 5. "Empty Garden;" 4. "I'm Still Standing;" 3. "Little Jeannie;" 2. "Flames of Paradise," (neglected duet with the incomparable Jennifer Rush); 1. "Blue Eyes."
  • DVD Watch! This week sees the release of the underperforming James L. Brooks comedy How Do You Know, featuring Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd. Also out is the much maligned The Tourist with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. And the certain-to-be guilty pleasure alien attack schlockfest Skyline, with a unfortunately clothed Eric Balfour.

  • Pink News has an interview with out British actor Andrew Hayden-Smith about his time as a child star, and his appearances on Doctor Who.

  • Lindsay. Just ... Lindsay. That reminds me of the story of a classic pop band. Picture it: England, the mid-80's. Singer Mick Hucknall wants to promote his new band Red. He tells the manager of the local club that they're scheduled to play at that the band's name is "Red. Simply ... Red." You can imagine his surprise when he later sees publicity posters at the club promoting the hot new band ... Simply Red. The name stuck, and the rest is history. It's an anecdote, use it as you will.
  • There's a new episode of Then We Got Help online, and this week they introduce a bisexual man into the group.
  • In addition to Elton, there are a bevy of gay and gay-fav performers celebrating birthdays this weekend. Sarah Jessica Parker is 46, Lee Pace is 32, Mariah Carey is 41 (again), Pauley Perrette is 42, Fergie is 36, Xuxa is 48, and out actors TR Knight and Jonathan Groff are 38 and 26, respectively. And yes, I included Xuxa.

  • We've got two clips from The Joy Behar show. First up, Elizabeth Berkley talks about her Saved By The Bell days, and the cult status of Showgirls.

  • On a serious note, below you can see Joy talk to Nate Phelps about his evil father. Why this monstrous person isn't in prison I'll never know.

  • Finally, below you can see the first glimpse at the model being used for the upcoming Syfy classic Piranhaconda. If there's any justice, it'll star Taylor Dayne and that singer from Pretty Poison.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
