AfterElton Briefs: ABC Swings the Daytime Axe, A Classic "Daily Show" Take-Down, Annie Lennox on her HIV Activism, and More!

Ricky Martin is a leather daddy

  • HOLY KISH! Another light of my youth has been extinguished. ABC has canceled All My Children and One Life To Live. While not unexpected news, it's still tough to get my mind around, and almost one year to the day that I did my last OLTL liveblog. AMC will go off the air in September, while OLTL will be on until January (which should give them plenty of time to get Kish back for the end of the run).
  • So what is replacing these two iconic shows? The first is a cooking show called, I kid you not, The Chew. Because TV definitely needs another cooking show. If only there was some kind of ... food ... network ... where we could see this untapped genre. The other offering is the weight loss reality program The Revolution. I'm sure both of these shows will last the 40+ years that their predecessors have.
  • We're giving a shoutout to AE member Amanda Scarpaci, who produced a film for a program called Sprite Refreshing Films. It's a contest in which six teams each make a short film starring a celebrity and then the films are put online for public voting. Amanda's short film stars Wizards of Waverly Place's Jennifer Stone, and is online now, so let's show Amanda some support!

  • Congrats to Queer Eye designer Thom Filicia, who has signed a development deal with HGTV that involves a number of future projects including guest appearances on several of the network’s popular series and the starring role in a holiday special.

  • Pink News has the link to an appalling transphobic bit on the BBC sketch comedy show Russell Howard’s Good News. They also have the BBC apology, which boils down to "We're sorry you're too dumb to get the joke."
  • Logo (our parent company) will kick off their run of the greatest TV show in history, Absolutely Fabulous, with a weekend marathon starting this Saturday at 2 PM EST.

  • Last night The Daily Show offered up one of their classic beatdowns, this time about the J.Crew pink toes controversy, which they refer to as "Toemageddon: This Little Piggy Went To Hell."

  • Finally, below you can see the latest edition of The Campest Chat Show Ever, (slightly NSFW - some naughty language) which features model Daniel Garafoli proving that he may be the ultimate slab of beefcake. Or maybe that honor is reserved for his puppet co-star Jock, who reveals some jaw-dropping pecs of his own. For more of Daniel (who also turns out to be a great sport), he's our Briefs Guy today.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
