AfterElton Briefs: NBC's Excellent "It Gets Better" Vid, No One Wants Jim McGreevey, and Let's Ban the Word "Straight!"

Happy Birthday to Andy Bell of Erasure who is 47 today!

  • We've loved UK singer Cosmo Jarvis ever since his gay pirate video and now Cosmo is back with a new vid that is sure to stir up trouble. Why? Take a look and then wait for William Donohue of The Catholic League to start screeching!

  • Speaking of religious ninnies, Jim Wallace, the head of the Australian Christian Lobby, used ANZAC day (Australia and New Zealand's Veteran's Day") to lament the fact that 'mos and Muslims aren't discriminated against the way they were in the "good old days." Those being the days when the Australian government not only blatantly discriminated against gays and women, but yanked Aboriginal children away from their families and had them raised in orphanages to they'd be "civilized."

Wallace later apologized for the "timing" of his comments. I believe the official Australian term for someone like Jim is "Mongrel, Drongo or Yobbo."

  • While Tennessee's "Don't Say Gay" moves toward passage, Alexandra Petri of the Washington Post explains why the bill doesn't far enough. And I agree completely! I'm sick to death of those heterosexuals shoving their lifestyle down our throats.
  • Beginners, starring Christopher Plummer, Ewan McGregor and Goran Visnjic doesn't come out until June. But given it's one of the few movies this year with actual gay content, I'm happy to mention anytime I can. And here is a pic from the movie I hadn't seen before!

Christopher Plummer and Goran Visnjic

  • Via Towleroad comes this interview by Thomas Roberts talking with Zach Wahls, the University of Iowa student who spoke to the Iowa legislature about is two moms. If you wonder why support for same-sex marriage is now over 50% in the U.S., folks like Zach are much of the reason!

  • While NBC certainly hasn't been a "CBS" when it comes to gay characters, they've struggled a bit of late. No doubt, the hiring of out president Robert Greenblatt will help change that. In fact, perhaps his presence accounts for this pretty great "It Gets Better" video from NBC.

  • Want to use Passover to show your solidarity with us 'mos? Here's one way!
