AfterElton Briefs: Happy Birthday Stevie Nicks, Are Cam and Mitch Too Mean, The Top 50 Gay Songs, and More!

Neil Patrick HarrisChristina Hendricks and Stephen Colbert - Just three awesome people
represented in the tumblr called "Awesome People Hanging Out Together."

  • The New York Times has launched its interactive online series "Coming Out" which so far has collected 132 personal stories from gay teens around the ocuntry. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't already. And if you're a gay teen - you might even consider submitting your own story.
  • Queerty sticks to its guns and won't pull down that fake (probably) photo of what looks like Jake Gyllenhaal posing as Grace Jones. (Gyllenhaal's lawyers have been sending out takedown notices to sites that posted it.) Good for Queerty, and we agree with their reasoning.
  • Curious what the world's "Top Gay Songs" are? Sure, "YMCA" and "Dancing Queen" are on the list, but what else and how do they rank? These guys have the poll results to name the Top 50 Gay Songs.

  • NPR's website has a piece by Mark Blankenship that has a bone to pick with Modern Family. Blankenship feels like the gay characters are too mean to one another. Unlike the other straight couples on the show, he thinks Mitch and Cam are too competitive and never provide any emotional support for one another. Interesting take, but the examples he gives seem like a major stretch and he ignores a lot of evidence to the contrary. (Remember when Fizbo took on those bullies?) Worth a read though.

  • One month to go!

  • Finally, I told you in the meme that it was a Very.Special.Day. And indeed it is. Today is the birthday of Stevie Nicks. Her corporeal age does not matter, because her spirit is ageless. For over 35 of your Earth years, Stevie has provided the soundtrack for our lives, and it would be impossible to pick just five songs to represent her best. Therefore, for this one time, I am allowing a top ten list. Actually, ten is too short a number, but we'll just have to deal with it. Name your top ten Stevie songs (solo and with Fleetwood Mac)!
  • Here are mine, but this list changes daily, so these aren't set in stone: 10. "Sisters Of The Moon," 9. "Rhiannon," 8. "Storms," 7. "Blue Lamp," 6. "If Anyone Falls," 5. "Gypsy," 4. "Sleeping Angel," 3. "Edge of Seventeen," 2. "Bella Donna," 1. "Landslide."

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
