AfterElton Briefs: John Barrowman Is a Doll, Justin Long Doesn't Wear the Pants In His Relationship (Movie) and Bryan Safi
Plus Alec Mapa is a proud papa, The Kids Are All Right does all right in wide release, and Sasha Roiz is crazy/sexy/awkward.
John Barrowman as La Cage aux Folles Zaza h/t Mandy.
- At the top, we have the one-of-a-kind John Barrowman as Zaza from La Cage Aux Folles. John commission the doll from Tonner, who made the Torchwood Captain Jack action figures.
- Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have a really awful relationship movie coming up called Going the Distance, and trailers just started running on television. Drew must have had some control over the film, because she says that it's Justin, not her, that gets naked on screen.
It's funny because usually it's the girl who's naked. I was like, 'That's right, bitch. The tables are turned!'
- Washington, D.C.'s annual Reel Affirmations GLBT Film Festival is being delayed from October until Spring 2011 because of a fundraising shortage. It's a shame, this is the only GLBT film festival I've ever attended, and I have fond memories.
- On Friday's episode of The View, Alec Mapa was on talking about adopting his son with his partner. The segment is touching, and must have really worked, because my mother called me and asked who that nice gay man was on the show, and she's middle America if there ever was a middle America.
- Matt Morris took a camcorder to Best Buy to make a video promoting his new CD. Then he found out that Best Buy, like Target made donations to a PAC that supports anti-gay politicians. He took down his promo video and amended it with how he'd like his fans to lobby Best Buy to change their political giving.
- India is set to market a condom aimed specifically at gay men. The primary difference is more lubricant in the package. Quite a step for a country that only recently decriminalized homosexuality.
- This past weekend, The Kids Are All Right officially transitioned from "limited release" to "wide release," appearing on 847 screens for $3.5 million. For comparison, the Selena Gomez-powered Ramona and Beezus opened on 2,700 screens and only took in $3.6 million.
- If you recall, Friday snicks showed you the spit take outtakes from this week's That's Gay with Bryan Safi. The producers were kind enough to send over a preview of the segment it was from, about commercials that imply their products are for "real men" and not "sissies".
- These days, advertisers are using more and more of those little QR codes to bring you better commercials. Calvin Klein got tired of New Yorkers complaining their billboards were too racy and just put up a code you read with a smartphone and watch the sexy video on your phone. Now Fox is doing it with marketing for their fall shows Glee, Fringe, and Lone Star.
- According to some twisted verbal gymnastics I'm not quite following, Tamara Scott of the Iowa chapter of Concerned Women of America, claims banning gay marriage will save taxpayers $3 billion. The way I read her logic, banning gay marriage will repair 1% of straight marriages that are failing, and result in a savings to social programs.
- In honor of the Gay Games in Cologne, Germany, I thought this new Random Russ cartoon from Shoebox was appropriate.
I never understood how this football ritual worked.

- R&B singer Ne-Yo thinks people keep saying he's gay because he never sings about killing people, so gays can't be violent. But the National Organization for Marriage is doing a bus tour to try and get footage of violent gays for their court cases. So which is it?
- Out writer/producer Greg Berlanti says he's begun the script for a movie about The Flash, and confirms that they wrote Green Lantern as if it was the first in a series of films. That mean more Ryan Reynolds in a CGI costume!
- Modern Family producer Steve Levitan wants his show removed from online viewing. He believes that would force people to view his show on television and up his ratings. It would also significantly reduce his press coverage at places like AfterElton.com where we watch and discuss on Thursdays.
- I found webseries crazy/sexy/awkward to be NSFW, and kind of funny and sexy. You also get a cameo by your favorite murderous gay gangster, Sasha Roiz.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
