AfterElton Briefs: Britney Spears On "Glee," Michael Ian Black Gets Gay In "Backwash," and Josh Kloss Undresses For Katy Perry

Plus Kevin Alejandro cheats on Lafayette, Nicholas Rodriguez goes to Oklahoma!, and why Jake Shears doesn't wear a lobster as a hat.

Actors Peter Kwong, Conrad Bachmann, Bryan Cranston, Kyra Sedwick, Aaron Paul, Kathryn Joosten, Julia Ormond, Fred Willard, Brenda Vaccaro and Chris Colfer

  • Above you can see Chris Colfer doing good deeds by visiting a retirement home. Seriously, he was at the Performers Peer Group Reception for the Emmy Awards, but I couldn't stop singing "One of these things is not like the others."
  • This morning Ryan Murphy told listeners of Ryan Seacrest's radio program that Britney Spears will be appearing in the episode of Glee that uses her music, which makes more sense than her appearing in a episode that uses Michael Jackson's music, which Ryan Murphy says he doesn't think he can license, as much as he wants to. So the Super Bowl episode will likely be Prince or the Beatles.
  • For all of you who have sent me questions asking about the "New York" costumes that the Glee cast was spotted in, your answer is at the end of this article.
  • Michael Ian Black has a new webseries happening in November called Backwash, and the number of celebrities in the trailer is too many to count. But I couldn't help but notice a lot of gay skits, and a lot of drag. Here's a celebrit-heavy preview.

  • In yesterday's Briefs we mentioned a study of how the New York Times was much more supportive of gay equality than the Chicago Tribune. Today comes an editorial from the Chicago Tribune advocating the separate-but-equal civil unions being imposed by the Supreme Court. Because civil rights should always be settled by playground rules where no one is happy.
  • Fox News asshat Greg Gutfeld wants to open a gay Muslim bar next door to the Islamic Center in New York that has conservatives ready to throw out freedom of religion. While I'm all for opening a gay bar on every corner in every neighborhood, anyone who thinks he'll follow through should see this bridge I've got for sale.
  • My favorite little adorkable heterosexual geek Chris Hardwick has a photo tour that adorkable Tom Lenk took at Dark Horse Comics, which means you can go get your gay and your geek on. Plus it's delightfully meta to look at Tom-as-Andrew standing in a room full of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic art.
  • Katy Perry conveniently released the video for her new single "Teenage Dream" the day after the Teen Choice Awards that she hosted aired. It's more of Katy Perry, and there's not a lot to say about the music. She has two female backup dancers make out in the background to help balance out how much skin her love interest Josh Kloss shows in the video, which is a lot.

  • West Point's #9 ranked junior Cadet Katherine Miller dropped out of West Point today after deciding she could no longer compromise her integrity by lying about her sexuality. She'll be transferring to Yale on a Point Foundation scholarship, and the Army is out another top performer due to Don't Ask Don't Tell.
  • Jake Shears and Baby Daddy are going to be hosting the next Poplab on Logo, Tuesday at 7 PM. Here's the promo, which is delightfully odd while keeping all the sexy.

  • Self described bi-curious bear Kevin Smith has a podcast network called SModcastle along with a dedicated facility for doing tapings. He's adding a new podcast called "Gay Clown" from Small Town Gay Bar/Bear Nation producer Malcolm Ingram. The first taping is August 15th, and tickets are available.
  • The cast for the Fringe Festival's production of Dear Harvey has been announced, and includes Vash Boddie, Katherine MacLeod, Mark Peters, Lynne Rosenberg, Ira Spector, Scott Striegel, and Jacqueline Sydney. Tickets are available for the performances August 20-28th in New York.
  • Amsterdam Pride clocked a low turnout of only 380,000, which is still a huge number of people. The parade is unique in that it takes place on the canals on 80 boats. A theme of "Celebrate and be visible" was meant to counter rising anti-gay violence and the loss of a safe haven for GLBT persons that Amsterdam has always cultivated.
  • John Horgan attempts to debunk the abuse from both the Christian right and the gay community toward his oft-cited 1995 study outlining the "gay gene." He finds both sides abuse the findings, often at the expense of the bisexual community.
