AfterElton Briefs: Chris Colfer's Emmy Dreams, Janice Dickinson Bashes Lady Gaga, and Chrolli Laughs Down the Aisle

Plus Modern Family prepares for their gay kiss, Meg Whitman dreams of defending Prop 8, and Joe McElderry plans a long career.

He had a rough weekend, but he looks good on the September cover.

  • As the Chrolli wedding approaches on Verbotene Liebe, they've released a rehearsal video. Not of the wedding rehearsal they filmed for the show, but of the rehearsal for the wedding rehearsal on the show. You know what, they're cuter doing it than I am explaining it.
  • GLAAD has announced their 2nd Annual Media Awards in Advertising will take place on September 29th. Looking over the nominees, these look like they were all in gay targeted publications and channels, at least to my memory. Last year, at least the Orbitz ad was true mass market, even if it was subtle.
  • As the Emmy Awards approach this weekend, we're going to hear and read a lot of press about the nominees. Chris Colfer did a long interview last year that AE reader T just sent me, and it's surreal to see him back then talking to University of Southern California, and then watch him discuss the role this week with Newsweek while seated at a table with Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet, Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, Friday Night Light's Connie Britton, and Lost's Matthew Fox. You've come a long way, baby!

  • The most-gossiped about pilot in recent years just might be HBO's Tilda, which is loosely based around Hollywood reporter Nikki Finke's career now has even more drama. The showrunner has abruptly departed after conflicts with star Diane Keaton and out director/producer Bill Condon, who's probably wondering when he can start bossing those Twilight kids around.
  • Modern Family is about to start filming their much anticipated PDA episode in which they discuss Mitchell's issues with kissing. Eric Stonestreet is flattered the fans care so much, but I can never tell if costar Ed O'Neil is answering as Al Bundy or himself, saying "My idea was Christmas but go right to oral sex. You know, in the easy chair by the tree with Christmas carols. Maybe the camera outside, amber light, snow gently falling, some soft moaning. And we go out on that." Meanwhile, Stonestreet says fans are always so disappointed to find out he's straight.

  • Despite correcting the school application in June to read "Wife"and "Wife" a Texas lesbian couple were told last week that their daughter could not be enrolled in the school because some folks don't approve of their family. I can't wait to see how this squares with the typical religious argument of "love the sinner, hate the sin."
  • Meg Whitman says that if she's elected governor of California, she will prudently use her business skills to spend funds the bankrupt state doesn't have in her fiscally responsible quest to defend Prop 8. It's a shame she'd be too late.
  • Maybe she should spend some time watching Right To Love, about a real California family who is affected by Prop 8. The trailer has the powerful message to opponents "Your political issue affects my actual life."

  • Janice Dickinson must feel cold without the spotlight, because she took time to make this statement about Lady Gaga, who might need to take her seriously, since if anyone knows about things being history, it's someone like Janice who has lived so many decades of it.
Her music is like elevator music, as far as I'm concerned. All the gays are looking for something new. She's history!
  • When it comes to support for marriage equality, we're improving nationally in every state except Utah. I was surprised to find my conservative West Virginia was in the middle of the pack at 41% support.
  • Here's a still from Robbie William's upcoming song "Shame" which he cowrote/duets with Gary Barlow. The upcoming video has been described as a Brokeback Mountain theme, but I don't see any livestock.

Is all unrequited gay love destined to be called Brokeback Mountain?

  • Joe McElderry says his focus is making sure he doesn't fall victim to the X-Factor curse and disappear after a single or two. He certainly seems to be moving the bar on looks from "adorable" to "heartthrob" lately.
