AfterElton Briefs: Fox News Can't See Gay Republicans, Elmo Interviews NPH, and George Clooney Talks Prop 8

Plus Least I Could Do's Rayne explains your virginity, the upcoming Ryan Reynolds/Bradley Cooper ab-off, and when That's Gay met Drag U.

Adam Shankman has a pool party for some of the SYTYCD contestants.

  • The Exodus Ministries Trust Board is no longer eligible for tax-exempt status in New Zealand. Why not? It was removed because it "was not performing any public benefit as homosexuality was not a mental disorder and did not need curing." I can't help but feel the United States is becoming a third world country when it comes to human rights.
I think it was terrific, well, and it's now un-lifted again. These are the kinds of things that take a long long time to change...People will look back at this time in our history and think of it as an archaic time. I feel like it's a slow-rolling process, but it will happen eventually.
  • "That's Gay" has a preview out for this week's segment, with Bryan Safi enlisting the help of RuPaul's Drag U professors Raven and Morgan McMichaels to help him cover football season. Looks like another home run!

  • CBS Networks (that includes Showtime) has created a gay employee affinity group called Angle. This is of course a good thing, but I wonder if they'd be willing to spend this much time creating a gay character for a scripted show?
  • The revival of a club party for one-night charity event had an author asking what does it mean to be gay and middle aged? When I used to travel the circuit, it was filled with guys in their late 30s/early 40s like this article. It seems today, we're more likely to be settled down than to be club kids.

Kids today do have odd ideas about "sex."

  • Florida Governor Charlie Crist has clarified statements widely quoted over the weekend that he supported a Federal Marriage Amendment. He says that he was speaking only of amendments to his own state's constitution, and not at the federal level. But knowing Crist, he'll change his mind again once he does some more polling.
  • Speaking of Republicans and politics, as of Friday, Fox News had still failed to mention even a single time about former RNC Chairman Ken Melhman's coming out. By that point, CNN had mentioned the story 19 times, and MSNBC a dozen. So at what point do we as a nation admit that Fox News is a PR machine for Rupert Murdoch's political goals and not a news organization, and then revoke their press passes to everything?
  • Psychology Today thinks the definition of what makes a beautiful man is changing, based on a study of gay adult films. They see more diversity in the latest study, with more body types and men of color than before. They also seem to think that so goes the taste of gay men's adult movies, so goes the nation. Sen. Jesse Helms is spinning in his grave.
  • If you ever needed any evidence that Neil Patrick Harris would be the coolest dad in the world, here he is getting interviewed by the arbiter of all things good about kids, Elmo. Of course, as his twins age, they might revoke his cool dad card over the pajamas song, but teenagers don't like anything.

  • There's a Danish dating show called Man of the Day that normally features one guy and twenty girls to choose from. But they did have a gay day, with one twink and twenty guys. It's not subbed yet, so i can't really tell you how it goes. h/t Crawfish Po Boy

This is how I envision the movie, as an ab-off.

  • I was just informed that Thursday is 90210 day - 9-02-10. Please dress appropriately, either the original series or the current series.
  • I didn't find this list of 10 Things You Didn't See On TV from the Emmy Awards that interesting, except the one item that NBC had their red carpet coverage playing on the big screens inside the theater. Which might have been entertaining if they hadn't done their Worst Dressed segment right before the show, badmouthing the dress choices to the women trapped inside the theater seeing their outfits picked apart on the giant screens.
  • And I need to give the final results of my Emmy Challenge from CCWayne: The short story is we both did pretty badly, but I got four right (36%) to Wayne's two correct predictions (18%). Wayne, you were a worthy opponent for me, I salute you.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
