AfterElton Briefs: Chord Overstreet Talks About Kissing Boys, Matthew Mitcham Talks Gay Youth, and JTF Bounces On "Ellen"
Plus James Franco sees homoeroticism in Twilight, Other Asian dances for Tyler Shields, and Jeff Sheng's Don't Ask, Don't Tell photography.
Happy 27th birthday Scott Evans. Forever our FUB.
- In Australia, 60 Minutes did a great segment on gay youth. They talked to out students, spent some time with MTV's out Ruby Rose, then chatting with the absolutely adorable Matthew Mitcham. The video isn't geoblocked, but it's not embeddable. Matthew talks about the power of being out, with that sexy Aussie accent of his.
I felt very proud to be a gold medalist - an Olympic gold medalist. And I feel very proud, all the time, to be a gay guy.Yeah, I got no gay taunts or teasing from year ten, eleven, twelve onwards. Because you can't pick on me for being a fag. I know I'm a fag. I admit to being a fag. It's not funny to tell a fag he's a fag when he already knows he's a fag.
- With Martha Plimpton's hilarious new show Raising Hope premiering tonight on Fox, you can whet you whistle for her quirky style with the web series Simply Plimpton. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. h/t Adam

- Brett Berk at Vanity Fair has a unique literary style. And his interview with Glee's Chord Overstreet reflects that. He asks Chord if he's willing to "go full Brokeback" and Chord sidesteps with a "no comment" that in context was an extremely savvy move. But he says he doesn't know if he's meant for Kurt or not, but if he is meant to make out with him:
I don’t know if I would be totally down with that outside of work. I’ve never kissed a guy before. But it’s acting. It’s kind of one of those things. Currently you have to kiss a bunch of strange people in the world of film and television.
- James Franco famously said he was reading the Twilight books. And in this interview with MTV News, he says the latest movie has a scene with Edward and Jacob in a tent with Bella, but it's like Bella isn't even there. He makes a case that it's more homoerotic than Brokeback Mountain.
- Are you obscene? Take the Howl test.
- Vulture obviously has too large an editorial budget, because they rewatched all of Glee and mapped out a floor plan of McKinley High so we know just how far it is from Sue Sylvester's office to the auditorium.
- Speaking of Glee yet again (we'll back off after the premiere, promise!), Other Asian, Harry Shum, Jr., stepped in front of the decidedly homoerotic camera lens of Tyler Shields. Then he danced for him in jeans that ride so low you can see skin between the waistband of his jock and his jeans in the back at times.
Harry is positively flaming for Tyler.
- According to The Daily Beast, Cheyenne Jackson's career is "about to be hit with the force of a thousand grape slushies." And here at AfterElton.com, we can say that we knew him when.
- New York Governor David Patterson signed a bill into law today that will allow unmarried couples, gay or straight, to jointly adopt children. It's not marriage equality by a long shot, but until then it will give some deserving children great homes.
- I'm From Driftwood is three weeks into their 50 state tour, and has new stories from Wisonsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Next up is South Dakota and Nebraska before they head west.
- Photographer Jeff Sheng's amazing Don't Ask, Don't Tell photography is on exhibit in Los Angeles at the Kaycee Olsen Gallery September 18-October 23. I've seen the book. Sheng's photography is haunting and powerful.
Real soldiers, real settings.
- The fourth season of Designing Women is out on DVD, and this is about where it gets really good with Suzanne Sugarbaker losing her figure. Also, I miss Dixie Carter, and would like to turn her loose on Senator John McCain right now.
- Jesse Tyler Ferguson finally got to go on The Ellen Show. He was so excited he bounced like a little kid who had to use the potty. Sadly, this is just an excerpt of the interview, and doesn't include his dancing as he walked on stage. But as a bonus, it does have his childhood photos.
- And with Glee and the other premieres tonight, don't forget to set your DVRs for the show that brought you Eddie McClintock's massive heavage all summer. Yes, Warehouse 13 has their finale tonight.
Don't forget your old toys just because Santa brought you new toys.
- Christopher Wood was one of the hostages at the Discovery Channel standoff earlier this month. He used to work for the Washington Blade, and shares the experience with them.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
