AfterElton Briefs: A Pose-able Russell Tovey, Ryan Murphy Teases Ricky Martin For "Glee," and a Look at "Angels In America"

They got the ears right on the wolf at least.

  • Russell Tovey had a goal to be an action figure. The under-appreciated star may not have caught the eye of Mattel yet, but the wardrobe department made sure his dream came true. Click through for the Being Human-specific accessories it came with.
  • True fact: I have never managed to sit through all of Titanic. Now I feel guilty as Gloria Stuart has passed away at the age of 100. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

  • A 13-year-old boy hanged himself September 19th after being bullied because he was openly gay. He remains on life support in Tehachapi, CA. The school says it has no reports of bullying related to the teen, who was placed on independent study this year. At what point do we pass the Safe Schools Act?
  • Voting for the Trip Out Gay Travel Awards remains open with Logo. Montreal is determined to be the gayest city possible, in the best possible way, and shot this video for why they should take home the top prize for best place to get away from home.

  • On the red carpet in London promoting Eat Pray Love, Ryan Murphy says that he had just taken a call asking if he'd be willing to talk to Ricky Martin about a guest role, and fortunately he is. He was also asked if he'd do something with Simon Cowell (because Cowell is evidently now bigger than the Queen), which I think sounds wonderful. I want to see Simon vs. Sue.

For no reason other than his name came up, here's Ricky hanging with
Puerto Rican GLBT activist Pedro Julio Serrano
.

  • Out screenwriter Greg Berlanti says that his screenplay for The Flash straddles the line in tone between The Dark Knight and Green Lantern, which I find odd, because I always thought of Flash as a silly, wisecracking hero, while Green Lantern was somewhat humorless.
  • Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is stepping into the role of St. Jimmy in American Idiot for eight performances starting tomorrow. No doubt this will be good for ticket sales of the rock opera.
  • In a new book, Humphrey Bogart, the Making of a Legend, it alleges the star slept with over 1,000 women because he feared he was "turning gay." Or maybe he slept with 1,000 women because he was Humphrey Bogart, and he could.
  • Civil rights legend Julian Bond doesn't mince words when speaking about beleagured Atlanta Bishop Eddie Long. He says, as he always has said, that Long is a "raving homophobe." Bond famously refused to attend the funeral of Coretta Scott King because it was held in Long's church.

  • Sir Ian McKellen is set to unveil a Blue Plaque outside the flat where GLBT activist Peter Tatchell has staged many of his actions and protest over the years. Blue Plaques are typically placed outside the homes of influential people after their deaths, but a public vote was held to award Tatchell's while he's still very much alive.
  • Fox has released a mountain of new pictures from the "Britney/Brittany" episode of Glee, but this one caught my eye, and not just because Coach Bieste's lipstick matches the team uniforms.

Artie is suited up? What does that mean for Finn and Sam?

  • This Glee promo for the "Britney/Brittany" episode has all the cast members talking about their love for Britney Spears, but when Heather Morris delivers the "It's Britney, bitch." line in that deadpan, I almost lost it.

  • Murder music performer Buju Banton's trial for allegedly buying huge quantities of cocaine from a federal informant has resulted in a hung jury. A new trial date has been set for December. His attorney has filed for bail, but considering that he has been sitting behind bars since April with no bail, that may be unlikely.
  • Frontiers IN L.A. has assembled a great collection of quotes about what it means to be an activist, and it's not just marching and lobbying. In addition to familiar faces like Cleve Jones, you have Mike Manning, Dustin Lance Black, Dan Choi, Adam Bouska, and this piece from producer/director Bruce Cohen.
To me, being an activist means actually doing the work to support a cause you believe in—whether it’s raising the money, organizing the rally, creating the video piece, writing the check or maybe even all of the above ... True opportunities to make lasting, monumental changes on a federal level don’t come around that often, but when they do it’s an activist’s dream come true.
  • Signature Theater Company has released a mass of pictures from the new production of Angels In America, including this one with Zachary Quinto and Christian Borle.

Hold him tight.
