AfterElton Briefs: "Ringer" Will Stick Around, Taylor Lautner Sets The Record Straight, Remembering Matthew Shepard, and More!

  • Birthday Shoutouts! Hugh Jackman (above) is 43, and the fabulous Susan Anton is 61. Susan most recently played Velma von Tussle in the all-star Hollywood Bowl production of Hairspray, but she's been an entertainer for forty years, and even had a hit song in the early 80's.
  • Speaking of Syfy, the Second Season of Being Human will premiere on January 16th, and the special holiday episodes of Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Haven will air on Dec. 6th.
  • In ratings news, the truly terrible-looking Last Man Standing scored big (even with show killer co-star Nancy Travis, the female equivalent to Ted McGinley). Meanwhile, Ringer surprisingly rebounded, up 17% in the ratings.

  • MTV aired Coming Out stories last night, and below you can see Nevin awkwardly come out to his soccer teammates on camera. I almost had to stop watching after the excruciatingly long pause, but there's a happy ending. I do wonder, though, what the reaction would have been if it was done off-camera.

  • Barney Frank gives if right back to Newt.. "He’s been having a bad year, you know — this self-styled intellectual leader of the free world struggling to stay ahead of Michele Bachmann in the polls is unsettling him so he talks even sillier than he sometimes does."
  • Via Towleroad comes this clip of Taylor Lautner on his GQ shoot, and you can also read his response to an offensive question about possibly being hit on by Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant.

  • Below you can see the official teaser trailer for The Avengers.

  • Finally, today marks the 13th anniversary of the death of Matthew Shepard, and his mother Judy has penned an article for Huffington Post about his legacy.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
