AfterElton Briefs: The Spirit Moves Us, Nate Berkus is Struggling, Joel Burns Chats with Ellen, and More!

Trust me, they were all wearing something purple

  • Today is Spirit Day, which honors those teens who have lost their lives to anti-GLBT bullying, and show support for GLBT youth. GLAAD has a list of the participants wearing purple today (purple symbolizes ‘spirit’ on the rainbow flag), and that list has been growing throughout the day. Below you can see Ft. Worth Councilman Joel Burns talk to Ellen about the inspiring testimonial that has gone viral worldwide.

  • I was afraid of this. Cutie pie Nate Berkus' daytime show is struggling mightily in the ratings, even losing to shrieking harpy Nancy Grace's new show. The other Oprah droppings, Rachael Ray, Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil were all the top rated new shows of their first seasons, but Nate has had difficulty finding his footing. I absolutely adore Gloria, and I can't post this without mentioning that it was exactly 25 years ago this week that "Conga" debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart, and began Gloria's road to pop superstardom. "It's the rhythm of the island, and the sugarcane so sweet!"

  • The PTC is claiming that the Glee pictorial in GQ "borders on pedophilia." Never mind that everyone featured in that spread is well into their twenties.
  • Below you can see a report from the New Jersey Star Ledger about the hazards of trying to wear a Lady Gaga meat costume for Halloween. I don't know what's funnier, the expert tips from professional butchers, or the catatonic reporter.

  • Finally, Ace lady reporter Damiana Garcia may have snagged her biggest celeb interview to date: This week she visits Cher (played by Nadya Ginsburg) and discusses what it was like making Burlesque alongside Ms. Christina Aguilera. Apparently, there was friction …
