Jim Says: Rex Lee’s Mr. Wolfe is Coming Out. Plus, is the End of ‘General Hospital’ Inevitable?

Rex Lee’s Mr. Wolfe will be charging out of the closet door in a January episode of Suburgatory.
I’m so glad Rex Lee bounced from Entourage right into Suburgatory. Anything coming up for Mr. Wolfe? – Michael via email
The big news for Mr. Wolfe is that he’s going to be coming out of the closet in a big way in a January episode called ‘Out in the ‘Burbs.’ Here’s what Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek told me last week about the episode:
It's a spontaneous, partially catered event. He announces his sexual orientation in the high school cafeteria, as every gay man should. I bet there are lots of people who, in hindsight, wish they could have come out to their entire high school cafeteria. Granted, Mr. Wolfe is no longer a student but hopefully the impact will be the same.
Kapnek also teased that you should keep your eyes peeled for this Wednesday’s episode. Here’s why:
Now if we can just get Mr. Wolfe's boyfriend to come out of the closet! Can you guess who it is? Hint: you catch a glimpse of him for the first time in the Thanksgiving episode.
Looks like we better watch Suburgatory closely when it airs Wednesdays at 8:30 pm et/pt on ABC.
Let’s take in the glorious sight of Steve Burton (Jason Morgan on GH) while we can.
I read this week that One Life to Live wrapped their final scenes that will air in January. Safe to say that General Hospital is next? – Jennifer via Facebook
Now that I’ve started seeing ads for ABC’s The Revolution (the daytime health and lifestyle transformation show starting in January with Ty Pennington and Tim Gunn among the hosts) I am not feeling a lot of confidence that the 48-year old GH will last much longer. After OLTL signs off in January it will be the only ABC soap left on the air and the Disney-owned network has already announced it will give up it’s 3pm daytime time slot (which is where GH currently airs) in favor of Katie Couric’s daytime talk show, Katie, set to bow September 2012. Sadly, I’d say enjoy your time in Port Charles while you still can.
Get ready to see a lot more of Jim Henson’s loveable creations when The Muppets hits theaters this Wednesday.
I love that the Muppets are back in theaters this week! Do you think The Muppet Show could come back to TV, too? – J.P., via email)
While any decision about the return of The Muppet Show will undoubtedly rest on the success of The Muppets when it opens nationwide this Wednesday, I would bet money that the weekly variety show will be back in some form sometime in the future. Disney, never one to pass up a good marketing opp. or two, wouldn’t be reviving the Muppets in the first place if it didn’t think it had some (frog?) legs.
However, you’re not the only one to want more of the Muppets, that’s for sure. In the film’s recent Entertainment Weekly cover story, star and film co-writer Jason Segel said that his own fantasy of the future of the Muppets were in early drafts of the script.
“Early drafts ended with Kermit saying, ‘And you know what? If we can do this, I’d like to announce that next summer I’m bringing back The Muppet Show to ABC! Yaaaay!’” [Segel] laughs. “I did it half-joking. But it only took, like, one reading of one draft before [Disney] called and said, ‘Nice try, kid.’”
Having seen the movie last week, I thought The Muppets was a huge success in the way that it succeeded in not only reviving the franchise but also in paying heartfelt tribute to the Muppets and The Muppet Show. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one to get chills when the crew revives the opening song from The Muppet Show in the movie.
