Instinct takes a look at gay comics
Our recent Avatar of the Week winner, sosuperduer, dropped me a line recently to mention that the May issue of Instinct magazine has a pretty large article about indie gay comics (including So Super Duper) as well as LGBT comics advocate Prism Comics.

Unfortunately, I can't comment about the article since the latest Instinct hasn't arrived yet in any of the stores I frequent. Still it sounds worth checking out. You'll know the issue by the sight of Robert Gant looking all suave and sexy on the cover

And while we're on a the topic of gay indie comics, So Super Duper recently contributed some original art for thge Shirtless Superheroes blog:

How cute!

The week in fabulous fan art
You might remember the time Stephen Colbert demanded a Monopoly game focused on himself. Well, here’s Colbopoly, where you have to fill a wing of the Stephen Colbert museum, collecting exhibits (instead of properties) and security systems (instead of houses or hotels.). My favorite space is probably the life size “replica” of Jon Stewart, though I’m also happy to see The Banana in the mix.

And I positively adore the chibi-Colbert found on the Chance and Community Chest cards:

Thanks to the No Fact Zone for the pointer.

That's it for this week. Check back next week for more from the Gay Geek!

Content...

The answer is yes, yes I created content. Four hundred and twenty-five pages of it. It is a book about a superhero in the 2085 who just happens to be gay. I have been writing it for nearly three years and have been working with an independant editor for a year and a half. The novel will come out this fall and I will keep you all posted. I wrote it for us queer geeks who wanted a gay superhero, but were never able to find one.

Yay - the Gay Geek!

Okay, just so I know I've got this right, the Gay Geek is now going to be a larger regular column? That's great! I was missing it when I looked for it on Friday!

Nice column Lyle - I love all this geekiness, as I am, a geek. 8) Anyway, I haven't really 'created' and gay content for City of Heroes, but I did participate in the festivities of last year's big 'Out party', and have written some queerness into my characters' backgrounds... But nothing like what RonSalon sounds to be working on. (Please do keep us posted Ron - love to hear more!)

Anyway, congrats on the expanded format and can't wait to read more! Thanks! 8)

Sadowski!

Oh, and it's great to see Steven Sadowski on comics again!

I'm sure he has been, but I haven't really heard of him doing anything since JSA, so I may just pick up this Avengers/ Invaders I was probably going to pass on otherwise...

Thanks for the info! 8)

I recall...

Sadowski was working on some pirate comic with a smaller publisher a little while back... I most recall that because some comics site cluelessly joked that Sadowski should get paid for that job in wenches. Oy.

City of Heroes/City of Villains

I got on the Test server last night to check out the new Issue 12 for COH/COV, and I think I'm falling in love with this game all over again. Oh sure, there are still kinks to be worked out, but there are some very nice quality of life improvements coming and the new Widows are just plain FUN. I'm also looking forward to creating some content when that feature becomes available. I'll definitely be putting some gay content in there if at all possible.

Sadowski's heroic bulges

I was unable to run out and pick up my copy of Avengers/ Invaders yesterday (WED), but I've been dying to pick it up for weeks now! There are soo many great characters in the teams, and particularly looking forward to seeing what kind of "bulge" Sadowski will give Wolverine. LOL There are some neat interviews with him online about this project that include more samples, etc. http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=007160;p=0 http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstories.1480.Avengers~slash~Invaders~colon~_Sadowski_Speaks http://www.comicsbulletin.com/features/120709653551480.htm

fashion faux pas

I just took a closer look at the photos from the exhibit (using the link you posted) and have an overall feeling of disappointment. I feel that there are many costumes that are assembled to make up the idea and not properly represent actual heroes from comics. In particular, Dawnstar. That outfit has NOTHING to do with who the character except for the wings. No fringe. No headband. No boots. Nothing. She wasn't even a blonde!? I can only hope that the references of the characters are placed next to each outfit so that the general public can get the idea. Obviously this is not needed as much with the Spiderman, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman costumes that folks will hopefully recognize. I just somehow feel the show is just more about fantasy and fashion, and the exhibit disguised it with a super hero theme because it's popular at the moment. Personally, I want to see more costumes from TV and film over the years, and LESS of fashion's interpretation.
