The Week in Gay TV: Jason and deMarco are "Angels," "Supernatural"'s End of the World and More!

Welcome to another edition of Week in Gay TV, your guide to the shows that will be filling space on your DVR including the finales of The Amazing Race, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. Plus Betty White leads a funny lady reunion on Saturday Night Live and a Doctor Who reunion.

Friday mostly has the usual suspects to offer, starting with the return of Annette O’Toole and Michael McKean as Martha Kent and Perry White on Smallville. Perry teams up with Lois in her investigation into the Red Queen, digging deeper into the chess-obsessed organization Checkmate.

I wish they still made superhero comics this way. I miss villains who would pick a theme and run with it to the point that henchmen would beg Thom Filicia to bring the Tacky House film crew to help bring some taste to their lair.

Is it me or is Thomas Lennon channeling a bit of Mark Sheppard?

A new Party Down has the team catering an orgy, with Reno 911’s Thomas Lennon as the host, while the Private Chefs of Beverly Hills work to create a meal that showcases their client’s sustainable produce. Finally, The Sundance Channel’s Live from Abbey Road has Mika performing this week with Bloc Party and La Roux. Finally, Merlin tries to expose Lady Catrina as the monster she is in reality.

Saturday has a new Doctor Who that brings together two of Steven Moffat’s contributions to the Who continuity — the Weeping Angels and River Song. The Weeping Angels’ first appearance, “Blink” was an instant classic, a creepy hour of television that could stand next to some classic Twilight Zone episodes. Hopefully, this two-part story doesn’t undermine the greatness of “Blink."

Hold on, Amy Pond, River Song, does Eleven have a fixation on bodies of water?

Meanwhile, while I initially liked River Song, I’ve started realizing I'm in the minority among Doctor Who fans. I really like the idea of a character we get to know out of order, starting with her death, as well as a character whose history throws off The Doctor. Maybe it's been done before and, as a newer Who viewer, I didn't realize it? Otherwise, my only issue with River is that I wish I could have seen her interact with David Tennant's Doctor more.

This week’s Saturday Night Live is the long-awaited episode hosted by Betty White. In honor of the occasion, former SNL cast members Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Molly Shannon are returning to the sketch comedy show. However, first GSN is celebrating the occasion with seven hours of classic episodes of The Match Game to remind the country one of the earliest reasons why White is a comedy icon.
