The Week in Gay TV: A "Glee"-ful Friday, ABC Family's new series is going to be "Huge" and "The Real World" heads to New Orleans

Welcome to another edition of Week in Gay TV, helping you sort through the TV schedule now that the summer schedule has gotten into high gear including a Friday night for Glee fans, ABC Family's newest series and The Real World's return to New Orleans.

You wouldn't believe how liberating it is to play someone nicer than Sue Sylvester every so often.

Friday is pretty quiet but it’s a great night for Glee fans. Starz has the season finale of Party Down which sees Constance Carmell (Jane Lynch) reunited with her former co-workers when she hires them to cater her wedding. BBC America, meanwhile has even more for Glee fans with a new episode of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. “Wossy” chats with Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison and Amber Riley this week including Chris' ninja imitation.

Friday also has the season's penultimate episode of Merlin on the SyFy Channel while the number of people who have figured out that Mickey is gay increases by one on a new Shameless.

The family that performs together... well, let's hope the Doonans don't end up like that.

Saturday sees Simon take up an interest in landscaping in a new Beautiful People, thanks to BBC reality series Ground Force.  Meanwhile, we learn that Simon’s family invented the “staycation” as they spend their holiday at home. It doesn’t sound as gay as last week’s episode, but I guess not every week can match Simon and Kylie wandering onto the Eurovision stage.

I was about to give up on The Jaquie Brown Diaries, but then the second episode turned out to be much better than the first. Jaquie definitely works better when she’s interacting with characters as obnoxious as herself, so hopefully she’ll be dealing with more obnoxious morning radio hosts and shilling toothpaste for terrorist organizations. Is anyone still watching this show? What do you think?

"There's something sinister about those sunflowers."

Saturday’s new Doctor Who sees The Doctor meet with Vincent van Gogh. I usually like the episodes where The Doctor meets with historical figures, though I expect a meeting with van Gogh will have a tragic tone that wasn’t part of The Doctor’s recent encounters with Agatha Christie or William Shakespeare. Still, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it better than last week’s conclusion to the Silurian story.

Saturday also brings another camptastic sounding SyFy original movie with Dinocroc vs. Supergator. Can this showdown match the match the craziness of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus? (Or calm our anticipation for Debbie Gibson and Tiffany’s upcoming “Mega Python vs Gatoroid?”)

Meanwhile, TV Land will be following the presentation of the AFI Life Achievement Award to Mike Nichols. Nichols has a long career that includes The Birdcage as well as Angels in America. Among the performers who will be paying tribute to Nichols are Meryl Streep and Cher.

Finally, Danielle Fishel takes on the week’s pop culture in a new episode of The Dish as Joanna Lumley and David Hyde Pierce visit The Graham Norton Show.
