The Week in Gay TV: A Daily "Degrassi", "Noah's Arc" Gets Ready for "Jumping the Broom" and Class Begins at "RuPaul's Drag U"
Welcome to another edition of Week in Gay TV, your guide to the shows that will be battling for your attention in the upcoming week.
There are even more summer premieres to anticipate this week with a new season of Degrassi: The Next Generation and the debut of RuPaul’s Drag U. We’re getting even closer to the Doctor Who finale and The Fabulous Beekman Boys face the costs of eating meat again.
"Is this device the new reason why I can't be with Alison?"
After last week’s very surprising developments, Sherriff Carter and his fellow travelers struggle to figure out the new world they unwittingly created on Eureka. So ... just as I was getting used to Eureka settling into a storytelling groove, they shake things up. (I was hoping this might lead to Tamlyn Tomita returning, Henry deserves that kind of break.) Hopefully, Eureka will take advantage of this shake-up and keep things fresh.
Now if only they would reveal that Vincent now has a long-time boyfriend.
A new Shameless sees the Maguire family go through another crisis when Shane ends up in the hospital with a head injury. Looking at where the family is now, I don’t predict things are going to get better for the them anytime soon. I mean they are the Maguires after all.
Finally, Logo has more do-it-yourself comedy with a new Jeffery and Cole Casserole.
Saturday’s new Doctor Who is the beginning of the end of the season, with the first of a two-part finale. That means a reunion with River Song (or, as I sometimes call her Lady Captain Jack) as the Pandorica opens. And if you think new showrunner Stephen Moffat isn’t going to follow Russell T Davies’ tradition of having The Doctor face several terrifying enemies at once, this episode offers Daleks, Cybermen and Sontarans.
Can I get an "Oh, my!" from the audience?
Meanwhile, the Biography Channel is debuting a new season of Celebrity Ghost Stories with one of the stories coming from camp icon Joan Collins. If that’s not enough Saturday night camp for you, there’s a new SyFy original movie, Goblin.
It’s a catchup weekend on Logo as the network gets ready for two big premieres on Monday. First, you get a chance to rewatch the entire first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Then, at night, you can catch up on the first season of the groundbreaking romantic drama Noah’s Arc. Elsewhere, Janet Jackson and Tyler Perry visit The Graham Norton Show while Danielle Fishel tackles the week in pop culture on The Dish.

Do you think Ragan wanted to ask Julie Chen about that dress? I know I did.
A new Big Brother reveals who the next nominees for eviction are. I hate to say it, but I’m getting drawn into this season. Normally, I would be bothered by how the series is repurposing last year’s challenges but the repetition is making the differences between this year and last year’s cast stand out.
Last year, when the houseguests were given a word puzzle challenge, we got “technotronics” put up as a word. This time, the least impressive entries were an 7-letter “factory” and an intentionally misspelled “pastuerized.” Lets hope these houseguests are also smart enough to avoid throwing slurs around. Admittedly, that’s a pretty high hope considering that we have one hamster who thinks that mayonnaise is a dairy product.
There’s also the “benefit” of knowing how things usually turn out on Big Brother. I’d usually hate an overbearing alliance of wannabe alpha males such as this season’s “Brigade,” but I know how things always end up for the guys who play big and spend the first week talking as if they’ve already guaranteed themselves a spot in the final three.
Enzo and Hayden are fated to be this season’s Jase (or Nick, Brian or Ronnie for more recent examples.) I’m just patiently anticipating the reversal of fortune that's seems to be the rule on Big Brother for lunks like them.
