The Week in Gay TV: Russell Tovey is "Being Human" again, "Mad Men" returns and "Project Runway" goes into overtime

Welcome to another edition of The Week in Gay TV, your guide to the upcoming week to the shows that will be fighting for space on your DVR.

We’re midway through the summer season and that brings new seasons of Being Human, Mad Men and Project Runway. We also get to see the conclusion of the new season of Doctor Who as well as the penultimate Beautiful People and, finally, a Riley sighting on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Mickey Maguire has done plenty of appalling things in the time that we’ve known him on Shameless, so I guess we shouldn’t be fazed when he gets caught trying to take advantage of a passed out Carl. On any other show, I’d pause at the thought of this kind of incident being played for laughs, but this is Shameless where everyone is truly awful, and yet, somehow lovable, including Mickey and his dysfunctional sexuality.

If you’re not spending the weekend in San Diego celebrating pop culture with the largest collection of geeks ever, why not attend the nearest Comic-Non — at your own home? Just get comfortable with your favorite shows and have your own celebration of the popular arts.

Your Comic-Non schedule could include Friday’s new Fargo-focused episode of Eureka, where the staff at General Dynamics turns into an angry mob looking to get Fargo. Frankly, a Fargo-centric episode of Eureka sounds pretty apt for your Comic-Non program.

If you’re seeking some comedy to kick off your weekend, Logo has more webcam sketch comedy with Jeffery & Cole Casserole

What could possibly make for more exciting Saturday night Comic-Non programming than the Doctor Who season finale? How about a new season of Russell Tovey in Being Human? The second season promises that we’ll get to see George, Mitchell and Annie learn more about their supernatural natures, starting with the arrival of a troublesome vampire couple. Hmm, isn’t that how Buffy’s second season got going?

But first, things were pretty dire where Doctor Who left off last week. Hopefully the conclusion will feel just as big. I’m usually a sucker for the emotional punches Doctor Who delivers at the season’s end and I’m hoping the show manages to deliver again.

I've visualized my series six wish list

If that’s not enough TV from across the pond for you, Logo has the penultimate Beautiful People, which sees Alice Lowe (if you recognize her, it’s from her role as the hapless Madeleine from Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace) as a temperamental, award-wining artist who decides Debbie is her newest muse. Meanwhile, Aunt Hayley tries a career as a telephone astrologer while Simon and Kylie study Indian dancing.

Finally, Danielle Fishel tackles the week in pop culture with a new episode of The Dish. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Kay Sedilla and Frita Lay will show up to comment about the RuPaul’s Drag U premiere.
