Liveblogging "As The World Turns" : The End of the World

Van Hansis on his first day as Luke - December 14, 2004

Before we begin, let me say what a privilege this experience has been. I had the good fortune of Liveblogging the entire Kish story on One Life To Live, and the entire LuRe story on As The World Turns, as well as a healthy chunk of Nuke.

I also briefly Liveblogged the Adam/Rafe debacle on The Young & The Restless, but we shall speak no more of that (although i do miss you, crazy stuffed cat lady!)

Thank you for sharing the ride with me, and another thank you for the words of encouragement in your comments. It was greatly appreciated.

A lot of you have asked if this is the end of my Liveblogging. Unfortunately, it is the end of our daytime coverage (unless The Bold & The Beautiful suddenly adds a gay character. But since that show is set in the fashion industry, and we all know there are no gays in the fashion industry, that seems unlikely.)

However, I would like to invite all of you to join me on Sunday, September 26th at 10PM EST when I Liveblog the season premiere of ABC's Brothers & Sisters!

And yes, there will be snark!

Now on with the show, as we have one last chance to see Van Hansis act circles around his material.

2:05PM EST: Oh dear, we get a voiceover from Bob, describing his daily routine and detailing everyone's lives. So we're going to get "Our Town Oakdale." So does this mean everyone's dead?

As Bob is describing what all the Oakdale residents are doing, we get scenes of Carly and Jack in bed, and Henry and Barbara about to play a sex game. Bob's a perv.

BUTTERS IN BED!

Luke is gazing wistfully at a picture of Reid in a Hospital announcement, and then we get a scene of Katie and Chris in bed. Wow, a lot of happy couples in bed. How frickin nice.

2:15PM EST: Carly is pouring a bowl of generic Honey Nut Cheerios and wondering how to tell people she's pregnant. Well, she should tell them right away, she doesn't want them thinking she's fat! (my undying love to whoever gets that reference.)

Carly is worried that she and Jack have become boring. Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be running off with someone or falling into another pit of Oakdale quicksand soon.

Janet and Dusty come over and Carly tells them, etc. Okay, this is wrapped up. Let's move on, please.

2:25PM EST: Alison and Butters are leaving. Oh, I just realized. No more Butters. No more shirtless Butters.

Katie and her hypnotic rack are making a mustard sandwich when Chris proposes marriage. But he thinks they should move to a larger place because this one still has the ghosts of Brad and Reid.

They're interrupted by a blubbering Margo, who is upset that she won't get to meddle anymore. Katie tells her the good news, and then the two of them start talking about finding larger and smaller places and soon they're speaking in gibberish.

2:35PM EST: Barbara is wearing a hideous pair of earrings. Oh, and she and Paul have dissolved their partnership. Man, those earrings are HIDEOUS! They look they came from a Cleopatra Halloween costume

2:40PM EST: Finally, we get back to Luke. He goes over to Katie's place and tells Chris that he talked to a board member, and it's almost assured that Chris will be COS. Chris says he's not sure that's what he wants anymore, and Luke angrily says "Reid would be seriously ticked off at you if he knew that. After all that he did for you?" He then calms down and Chris says "I will think about it." Go to hell, Chris.

Before Luke leaves Katie gives him Reid's stethoscope. He looks at Chris, who realizes what's on Luke's mind, and allows him to listen to Reid's heart. The look on Luke's face is sweet and moving.

Lucinda and John are back from Amsterdam, and they're officially together. I wasn't paying close attention, but I think John mentioned that they're wearing vials of each other's blood.

2:50PM EST: Barbara and Henry dance to "Last Dance." With built in Disco lights. Yes, this marriage will last.

Happy couples, happy couples, blah, blah, Lily and Holden are obviously getting back together. More Happy couples, Bob is officially retired. Everyone gets a happy ending EXCEPT LUKE.

And that's the end.
