Chris Geidner does a fairly amazing job of explaining why the DOJ's latest filing in a DOMA immigration case is important. A lot of it boils down to the fact that since DOMA wasn't passed by Congress as a specific immigration law, it doesn't have the special status that is typically assigned to laws about citizenship.
