Weekend Meme: New "Glee" Preview and Photos, Elmo Likes Katy Perry's Cleavage, and Is Uncle Saul Done With the Walkers?

You’re probably wondering why I’m here. We’re going to give you a Meme dose on the weekends now, because too much is happening in the world. Also, my editor, the esteemed Michael Jensen, discovered I had a day off, and that can’t be allowed, or I might get ideas about having a life.

The big news is that a federal judge has ordered the Air Force to reinstate flight nurse Major Margaret Witt to active duty. Major Witt was discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and will become the first openly gay service member.

Before we celebrate, this is a very narrow ruling that applies only to Witt, and is only possible because it happened in the Ninth Circuit, where precedent says the burden is on the government to prove the government has a compelling interest in discharging a service member. Again, patchwork rulings create not just separate classes of U.S. citizens, but even separate classes of GLBT people.

Ron Rifkin says that even if Brothers & Sisters goes on beyond the new season that’s starting, he doubts Uncle Saul would be a part of it. He says that since creator Robbie Baitz was forced out, his character has been shoved to the sidelines. He thought he’d come back to the center with the HIV storyline, “but it doesn’t seem to be what they’re interested in.”

When I was younger, a lot of people smoked, and when you went to a concert and a power ballad came on, you’d hold up the lighter and sway. Now, the crowd is mostly a sea of cell phones recording video, and some bands are done with it. They want the audience present, and are seeking to ban cell phones from their concerts. I see their point, but that’s not really fan friendly.

The Survivor: Nicaragua controversy with banned castaway Shannon and his gay comments about Sash continues. He keeps saying contradictory things to different outlets, but the money line has to be “No, I was concerned that he was gay and I was protecting my butthole.” Game, set, match. Another theory I have? I noticed that when Sash and Shannon were filmed in their brightly colored undies, only Sash (yellow) got pixilated by the vigilant CBS censors. Maybe Shannon just felt small and inadequate?

Does being gay help you get into an Ivy League school? Maybe not, but being gay with an activist bent likely does.

Only Make Believe supports children living with chronic disabilities. They’ll be having a fundraising gala at the Shubert Theater November 1st hosted by Sir Ian McKellen.  Tickets are still available.

Bill Maher is an acquired taste. I heard a lot of people complaining he let Andrew Breitbart on Real Time Friday night and never challenged anything he said, which is pathetic. But I do agree with him that in the current economic climate, rich people who complain about being vilified should be vilified.

The jury of murder music king Buju Banton still haven’t reached a verdict on his trial for drug trafficking, and will continue to deliberate on Monday.

Hunky Nick Adams, equally studly Will Swenson, Tony Sheldon and the rest of the cast of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert met with the media, posed for pictures, and packed their bags for a 12-week Toronto run of the production before coming back to New York for a planned spring opening.

The homes of the three families on Modern Family are as much characters on the show as Mitch, Cam, and Gloria. The Los Angeles Times talks to the producers about how they chose the look for each home and how it fits the characters that live there, right down to the paint on the walls (paint is Benjamin Moore, and you can buy it).

One of the iconic moments on Glee was the sexy song/dance that Mr. Schue (Matthew Morrison) gave to Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). Now someone in the cast is giving John Stamos a lap dance on Tuesday’s episode. Also, he was originally going to play Doctor Frank N. Furter on the Rocky Horror episode, but someone decided they didn’t want to see Stamos in fishnets. That person should be fired.
