Morning Meme: Emma Stone Romances Andrew Garfield, James Franco Likes "Candy," and Simon Pegg Wants Your Body

Margaret Cho’s time on Dancing With the Stars ended on an awkward week, with her bold gay pride samba. It wasn’t the judge's least favorite, but couldn’t pull in the voters. With Margaret and her pro Louis Van Amstel out, there goes my interest.

ABC is developing a show based around the website Awkward Family Photos. How far can you take something like that?

Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore is in the very early stages of redeveloping Wild, Wild West for television. I’m not a fan of westerns, but it’s got to be better than Awkward Family Photos.

An early document from The Simpsons showrunners has been unearthed, and it’s full of potential jokes and storylines that never were. Some actually aren’t bad, and it’s good to know that 22 seasons later, they still have enough creativity to scrap potential laughs. But I still want to see Ned Flanders dress as Elton John for Halloween.

In going from his gay role as Damien in Mean Girls to I Spit on Your Grave, Daniel Franzese is showing some acting range. “You can't get much different from a sweet 16-year-old gay best friend than a conniving backwoods rapist. Professionally it was exciting to show people that range.”

Emma Stone was brilliant in Easy A, so it’s great to see her pick up big roles. She’s being tapped to play Gwen Stacy in the reboot of Spider Man starring Andrew Garfield.

Even in the land of health care and gay marriage, the It Gets Better Project is catching on. Canada is embracing our latest export, even with their civil rights protections. h/t Campion

The Academy is thinking about moving the Gay Super Bowl, the Oscars, up to January so it stays relevant in the face of the huge number of new awards shows. The biggest problem is finding air time before football ends.

ABC Family renewed Melissa & Joey, so now Joey Lawrence is employing his baby brothers on the show. Matthew Lawrence will  be on in about a month playing Joey’s brother, and Joey’s already got a role picked out for Andy Lawrence.

MTV is bringing back Punk’d, but now hosted by Justin Bieber. We’re unclear if trucker hats will be coming back into style. Alternate comment: I wonder how it feels for Ashton Kutcher to be too old to host his own show?

Alan Alda is set to play a Bernie Madoff character in a film called Tower Heist. I’ve missed having Hawkeye on screen, but I’m not sure I can ever see him as a villain.

Aussie swimmer Annabelle Williams is going for gold at the Commonwealth Games right now, but soon she’s going to be a stunt double for Charlize Theron in the new Mad Max movie. Why is this news? Williams was chosen because her left arm ends at the elbow, which presumably tells us something about Theron’s character.

HBO is developing a single-camera comedy based around an aging golf pro who stays caught up in the members’ problems all the time. Kevin Bacon is set to produce, and possibly star.

An online UK gambling exchange trained eagles and hawks to fly banners across and over the course during the Ryder Cup, like some kind of natural prop plane at Daytona during spring break.

Chelsea Handler has landed a supporting role in This Means War. Her costars are Reese Witherspon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Is it too much to hope they pair Reese and Chelsea up, then put Pine with Hardy?

In an effort to get a positive story into the hands of as many people as possible, Rakesh Satyal is making his gay coming of age story Blue Boy available for free on the Kindle today only. He was kind enough to give AfterElton.com the heads up. Now if he’d just give me a Kindle.
