Morning Meme: Carl Paladino Does Damage Control, "Napoleon Dynamite" The Cartoon, and Bryan Fuller's Dark "Munsters" Reboot

MTV has picked up broadcast rights to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Yay, Wallace!) and MacGruber (groan) starting in 2012, sometime around the end of the world. I remain fascinated to see what the network I remember launching with music turns into over the next few years.

Rhys Ifans has been signed to play the villain in the Spider Man reboot.  There is no word on which villain he’s playing, but with a Welsh villain and mostly-Brit Andrew Garfield as Spidey, I’m wondering if they’ll even bother setting the movie in New York.

Say what you will about these one-word movie quotes, but most of them have a lot of extra letters to make them memorable. Which one is still in your daily lexicon?

So President Obama had a weird day yesterday. First someone threw a book at him (at least it wasn’t a shoe). Then Juan James Rodriguez took billionaire eccentric dude Alki David’s dare to be the first person to streak in front of President Obama. He was arrested, but David says if he has met the terms of the deal, he’ll pay out – in cash!

Bryan Fuller has a darker take on his Munsters reboot. According to him the story begins “when young Eddie unexpectedly manifests as a werewolf on a scout camping trip and inadvertently eats two of his fellow scouts.”

At New York Comic Con, the men behind the Venture Brothers say they keep trying to come up with plots for Shore Leave because they love the character and they want us to love him. He’s a horrible caricature, but I kind of do.

Martha Stewart was originally given an eight hour block to program during the day on the Hallmark Channel . But after two weeks of ratings disappointments, she’s been cut to five hours, with the other three going to repeats of Little House on the Prairie. Ouch.

Zoolander 2 has a script, based around Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) trying to get back into modeling as they approach 40. Will Ferrell is back, and Jonah Hill is also written in. I just realized I have less than no interest in this movie.

Rich people got closer to using their shiny new toy this weekend. Virgin Galactic’s VSS Enterprise made its first solo flight and landing away from the mothership. Once this thing goes operational, Richard Branson will control more manned launch capability than the United States government.

Darth Gaydar, with apologies.

When I was younger, universities, and by extension university newspapers were bastions of liberal thought (and insane drink specials at bars which didn't card). Now we have Rutgers’ paper complaining the gays are exploiting Tyler Clementi, and NC State is chiming in that “we can’t have flamboyantly gay people leading troops.” Have they ever marched in formation? It’s like a drum major leading a marching band, just with slightly shorter hat.

The networks are trying to take away DVRs and move us to pure video-on-demand (VOD) so that we can’t skip commercials. They even want commercial skipping blocked in DVRs that are currently out.

It time for the annual Toys That Made Us Uncomfortable at New York Comic Con.

I thought they promised us less Kitty on Brothers & Sisters, not more? First the hot plumber, now they’re going to give her hottie Ryan Devlin for at least four episodes. He better be an underwear model friend of Luc’s.

TV Guide has the first look at the kids from Glee dressed for the Rocky Horror Picture Show episode, and I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed. I mean, I guess the costumes are appropriate for a high school production, but this isn’t the time to get prudish on us. Also, Chord Overstreet is hot, but like so many hotties, it appears he neglects his legs when he works out.

NBC has canceled Jimmy Smits’ Outlaw. Three shows down, but we haven’t lost a gay yet. Knock on wood!

I refuse to link to Deadline because of the homophobic comments, but Hollywood trades like it and The Wrap are reporting on The Dilemma, and GLAAD’s Jarrett Barrios is making the interview rounds. I personally think trying to get the gay joke taken out of the movie may be a step too far, even if I was adamant that it had to come out of a green band trailer.
