You have to wonder about the future of our democracy when people like Charles J. Kelly, a former Baltimore Police Department lieutenant who wrote the department's use of force guidelines reviews the pepper spraying at  UC Davis and observes "at least two cases of "active resistance" from protesters. In one instance, a woman pulls her arm back from an officer. In the second instance, a protester curls into a ball. Each of those actions could have warranted more force, including baton strikes and pressure-point techniques. 'What I'm looking at is fairly standard police procedure."

Then there's presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, who thinks that the child labor laws are outdated. "These schools should get rid of unionized janitors, have one master janitor, pay local students to take care of the school." That's right – poor kids should clean their own vomit up at school, as young as 9 years old.
