Meme: Eric Braeden Is Out Of Touch, Wisdom From "Rugrats," and "Misfits" Pings My Radar

Conservative British MP Nigel Evans has come out after pressure from a gay liberal politician and a chat with a fabulous soap star from Coronation Street. Evans voted against equalizing the age of consent and fought to leave the horrid Section 28 as law. I guess the rule about conservative anti-gay politicians remains true on either side of the ocean.

Matt Dillon is set to play Claire’s ex-boyfriend on Modern Family. After how poorly Phil handled his ex-girlfriend when she turned up, I’m hoping  for more of the same. And that there’s an underwear scene for Dillon.

Shonda Rhimes has had a non-medical series picked up to pilot. This one is about public relations and crisis management. I’m willing to bet that we get at least one plot with a famous person facing being forcefully outed, but not a single regularly recurring character who’s gay.

Want to tour Chernobyl? Well now you can, but not alone. Some parts of the nuclear disaster are still too radioactive, but guided tours are being planned for the safe zones. Apparently, wildlife is thriving in the exclusion zone and I'm predicting ... mutant cats!

Nicollette Sheridan has dropped the abuse clause of her lawsuit against out Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, but is still pursuing sex discrimination and wrongful termination.

We’ve been hearing a lot from John Cameron Mitchell about his movie Rabbit Hole, but the piece that caught my attention was that he’s developing Neil Gaiman’s How To Talk To Girls At Parties as a film as well. Will he teach me how to talk to boys?

NYC gay bar Chi Chiz is set to close after a bruising battle with authorities. The bar is one of the oldest gay bars in NYC, and one of the only gay, African-American owned bars in the city.

Tron: Legacy is opening about to expectations at the box office, but not setting any records. Yogi Bear is bombing, proving there is still some taste in the world.

Julianne Moore says she loves the fact that the parents in The Kids Are All Right are just matter-of-factly lesbian. There’s no real explanation or backstory given.

Endorsement deals continue to roll in for the Glee kids. Cory Monteith has the clothing brand, Lea has Dove, and now Heather Morris is the face of Flirt Cosmetics, which sounds perfect for her.

The Parent’s Television Council has taken a break from demonizing gays on television to put together a study saying Hollywood is too eager to sexualize young girls on television. I’m always wary of any study from the group, but when they claim that 98% of sexual experiences seen on TV take place outside a relationship, I find myself especially skeptical.

Two straight women take on the topic of Should Guys Groom Their Pubic Hair? Let me simplify this for you: Yes, yes they should, but grooming doesn’t necessarily meaning shaving entirely.

Fox News viewers are the most misinformed viewers, according to a new study from the University of Maryland. One question they didn’t answer is how forcefully Fox News viewers will insist that they are the best informed viewers.

Jim Carrey will host Saturday Night Live in January. Based on his time on In Living Color, this could either be great, or terrible. It’s SNL, so I’m going with terrible by default.

John Corbett will soon play a love interest for Lauren Graham on Parenthood. Maybe if he brings his "mellow" thing to the show, he can make Graham’s character likable enough for me to watch again.

Flight of the Conchords Bret McKenzie is going to write the songs for the new Jason Segel Muppet movie. I doubt we’re going to get another classic like “It’s Not Easy being Green.”

Warner Bros. is taking the high road with that Yogi Bear parody video that I posted last week and not fighting the creator. They just requested he strengthen the disclaimer that it was an independent parody. Very classy move for a movie studio.

Media Matters is launching a new “communications war room for gay equality” to push for the next great battle, marriage equality. The group, Equality Matters, will be headed by Clinton operative Richard Socarides, and communications handled by Kerry Eleveld, who is leaving her position as White House correspondent for The Advocate for the new role. How this will affect The Advocate's already downsized coverage is unclear.

In Briefs on Friday we told you that Neil Patrick Harris was upset with Y&R’s Eric Braeden for bailing on a cameo on How I Met Your Mother at the last minute. Now Braeden has responded to being called a d-bag by Harris, and frankly, I think the old man has lost it and thinks he’s The Great Victor Newman in real life. Does he not realize that NPH has been around 25 years already and has a huge list of credits? Evidently not.

I really don’t know who that fellow is. He’s a guy who stars in that series.

His choice of words bothered me. It seems to me like a young whippersnapper, having seen himself on a few covers, who’s received a few awards, is now suddenly suffering from the first signs of hubris. I’ve been in the business for 50 years. I’ve seen people come and go and I’m still here.

If he is a worthy adversary, he’d better not cross my path. I will let bygones be bygones.
