Morning Meme: Major Kurt and Blaine News, John Barrowman Is a Winner, and Mike Ruiz's Beach Body

I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday, whether you
celebrated Christmas or just took a day or two off to relax with loved ones. I
actually had two days off from the day job in a row, and feel better than I
have in months. Now on to the news, such that it is. Hollywood is mostly
shut
down until next year.
There are major, major spoilers for our boys Kurt and Blaine on Glee in this TV Guide article. They appear to so spoilery that I’m going to ask you to keep the plot points out of the subject line in your comments, and I’m not even going to name the song that gets sung.
In that same TV Guide article there are also spoilers we already knew for Cam and Mitchell on Modern Family, but one bonus that I think everyone should be excited about is that we’re now expecting the return of Fizbo the Clown.
LZ Granderson wrote this piece about how the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
will change the face of the gay rights movement forever. But what struck me was his
retelling of the moment on camera that he ended up telling
a bunch of ball
players his celebrity crush was Hugh
Jackman. He panicked, but they didn’t. “To this day, those two minutes
remain one of my most embarrassing times on camera. Not because I had to tell
complete strangers I was gay, but because I assumed they would have a problem
with it once I did. I respected them as athletes, but didn't give them much
credit as people.”
Singer Teena Marie, an undeniable original, passed away in her sleep at age 54. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.
New reports say that nearly 75% of all political donations made by Target last year were to anti-gay politicians. Who just happen to be pro-business.
Ireland’s new civil partnership bill, as imperfect as many of you say it is, still is more than we have here in the states. And it’s been signed, going into effect Saturday, even if there is a three month delay until the first partnerships can be registered.
This history of the Speedo was interesting, but there weren’t
nearly enough pictures for my taste.
Is new California Attorney General Kamala Harris the anti-Palin? I’d like to think that someone is the anti-Palin.
Basically, the weekend box office sucked, down 52% from last year. Viewers were too smart to pay to see Gulliver’s Travels, and Tron: Legacy is bombing. If there was a bright spot, it was True Grit, so I guess Jeff Bridges had an O.K. weekend.
Patti Smith’s new book Just Kids reflects on her relationship with photography great Robert Mapplethorpe and provides an intimate look at his evolution as an artist and a gay man.
If you don’t know the huge role that 85-year-old Frank Kameny has played in the gay rights movement, you really need to take five minutes to read this piece by CNN.
This rather personal story from a straight Lt. Col about the
repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and how he evolved on it based on a gay
NCO
that kept a young butterbar alive in combat is a must read.
Simon Baker, finally getting his big break in The Mentalist, just renegotiated his deal with CBS for over $30 million dollars.
John Barrowman won
the Christmas edition of Strictly
Come Dancing. He’s certainly light on his feet from the video at the link.
The British government is beginning an automatic purge of any convictions for gay sex that were consensual and of age, removing black marks on tens of thousands of records.
Congratulations to gay ally Jason Mraz, who got engaged.
Hugh Jackman was playing cricket, the sport that makes no sense at all to an American, when he got hit in a very delicate place with a cricket ball. The mildly NSFW dListed.com has the hilarious commentary.
And if this story of the gay NYC couple who inexplicably got hundreds of letters to Santa and managed to deal with them all doesn’t warm your heart, you’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
