Skeletons in the Closet
David Hyde Pierce in Wolf (1994) and Vampire's Kiss (1989) If there's one thing that David Hyde Pierce is best known for, it's his class. So it's no surprise that his only legit genre outing, Wolf, has a pedigree that lifts it out of the standard hack-and-slash (it starred Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer and was directed by Mike Nichols). Pierce had a small role as Roy, a colleague of Nicholson's wolf-bit character ... and while he didn't get bloody, the perfect comic delivery that became his hallmark on Frasier was already in place.
Likewise the utterly bizarre horror comedy Vampire's Kiss, starring Nicolas Cage. Pierce played "theatre guy" in one of his earliest roles.
Mitchell Anderson in Jaws: The Revenge (1987) Mitchell Anderson is one of the first out gay men I remember seeing in a recurring role on television, as Ross on Party of Five. Little did I realize that I'd seen Anderson before, namely in the awesomely wretched, completely unnecessary sequel Jaws: The Revenge.
It might be easy to miss Anderson in the movie because he gets killed in the opening scene ... but it's a doozy! Set on Christmas Eve, Anderson plays the grown-up Brody son Sean (remember, the little kid from the original?), who goes to check out a call at the docks and winds up having his arm bit off by the titular shark and then getting munched as carolers sing across the water. Cheery!
Oh, had Anderson only had John Barrowman's shark-fighting assistance, this might have ended very differently (insert gay shark movie slashfic here)...
Tyra Banks in Halloween: Resurrection (2002) Confession time: I have a long-standing love/hate relationship with the Top Model matron, and at the time that this completely unnecessary Halloween sequel came out I was in a hate phase, and went to see it specifically to see Banks bite it.
Guess what? SHE DIES OFFSCREEN. I was furious. There was even a shot of her in the preview with serial killer Michael Myers standing behind her in her television producer van-thingy that wasn't in the final cut, so I knew they had even filmed a death scene and cut it. In the end, all we see is her lifeless body hanging inside her van.
Well, thank heavens for the internet! Yes, some enterprising soul got a hold of the deleted death scene and uploaded it for our enjoyment. Love ya, Ty!
