The Best Summer Movie Preview Ever!Another out actor, Denis O'Hare, hits screens the following weekend in the Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds comedy The Proposal (June 19), but we probably had you at "Ryan Reynolds" anyway. The always-entertaining Betty White also co-stars, as do Oscar Nunez (who plays gay Oscar on The Office) and Niecy Nash (Reno 911).
Dennis O'Hare (left) and Ryan Reynolds & Sandra Bullock in The Proposal June closes with a bang, a clank and that weird "TSHK-TSHK-TSHK-TSHK" sound thanks to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June 24), which also features a supporting turn from out actor John Benjamin Hickey. Plus, ridiculously underused gay-fave Julie White (The Little Dog Laughed, Six Feet Under) is back as Shia LaBeouf's mom, and with Ehren Kruger pitching in on the script, here's hoping that this sequel is a little more original than the original.

Billy Crudup (right) plays J. Edgar Hoover in Public Enemies The big summer holiday weekend brings us a slice of real American history with Michael Mann's Public Enemies (July 1), which stars Johnny Depp as notorious criminal John Dillinger. This one's of particular interest as it features Billy Crudup as closeted gay FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover, and Chandler Williams as his suspected lover (and heir to his post), Clyde Tolson. As Hoover was particularly driven to take out Dillinger, he should be featured prominently in the film, and it will be interesting to see how his sexuality is handled.
Sacha Baron Cohen as Brüno Two movies that tackle American attitudes towards male intimacy and gay sexuality arrive in theaters on July 10, but their approaches couldn't be more different. In wide release there's the hotly-anticipated Sacha Baron Cohen "gotcha" comedy Brüno, where his flamboyant, gay and vapid European fashionista character does his best to elicit homophobic responses from people of all walks of life. Will it be Borat or Chuck & Larry? We'll have to wait and see. Submitted by on Wed, 2009-04-29 21:32. |
