The Week in Film: Matt, Megan, "Meatballs" and the hottest new trailersBoo-hooin' Glenn Beck made the cover of Time Magazine this week. Why not ride out the decline of Western civilization with a look at what's new in movie land? The Weinstein Brothers buying Tom Ford's A Single Man isn't the only thing happening in the world!
Matt Damon stars as a real-life corporate whistleblower in Steven Soderbergh's The Informant! Don't go expecting a gritty drama along the lines of The Insider, though — the guy Damon plays, Mark Whitacre, is such an exceedingly odd duck that Soderbergh decided to go the comedy route instead. Unfortunately, IMHO the comedy in The Informant is played so very dry and deadpan that it never takes off and actually becomes, you know, funny. And the insistently jokey score by Marvin Hamlisch doesn't help much, either.
That being said, so far other critics seem to be liking it with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 70% fresh. Does this mean we can expect to see more stars pack on the pounds? Possibly, as long as we're talking men. Kind of hard to see Megan Fox doing it, eh? Speaking of Miss Fox...
Another disappointment is Jennifer's Body, the this-is-what-a-sophomore-slump-looks-like follow-up to Juno by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody.
