"Burlesque," "Glee," "Modern Family" Among the Gay Faves in this Year's Golden Globes Noms

Z

The nominations for the eccentric gay uncle of the awards season have been announced, and there's quite a bit of gay interest, as well as some surprises.

The Golden Globes are always split into TV and Film sections, and during the award show, I always picture the film stars feasting on lobster and prime rib, while the TV actors are served Lean Cuisines and Little Debbie snack cakes.

But they're all on equal footing here, so let's take a look first at the television nominees.

The usual suspects are nominated for Best Comedy. 30 Rock, Glee, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Nurse Jackie, and first-timer The Big C.

There were no surprises in the Best Comedy Actress category. Toni Collette, Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laura Linney, and Lea Michele.

Nominated for Comedy Actor are Alec Baldwin, Steve Carrell, Thomas Jane, Matthew Morrison, and Jim Parsons.

Moving on to Best Drama, we have nominees Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Good Wife, Mad Men, and in an unexpected but welcome surprise, The Walking Dead.

Nominated for Best Drama Actress are Juliana Marguiles, Elizabeth Moss, Piper Perabo, Katey Sagal, and Kyra Sedgwick.

Rounding out the drama category are Best Drama Actor nominees Steve Buscemi, Bryan Cranston, Michael C. Hall, Jon Hamm, and Hugh Laurie.

Other noteworthy TV noms include Chris Colfer and Eric Stonestreet nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role, along with ... Scott Caan in Hawaii Five-O?

Moving on to film, we have the expected entries, plus one glitzy surprise!

The nominations for Best Film (Comedy or Musical) are Alice in Wonderland, The Kids Are All Right, Red, The Tourist, and Burlesque. I love that they nominated Burlesque, it's one of those unexpected nominations that make The Golden Globes so special. But ... The Tourist? Seriously?

Up for Outstanding Comedy Actress are Annette Benning, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Julianne Moore, and Emma Stone.

Johnny Depp inexplicably received two noms for Best Comedy Actor (I love Johnny, but he was awful in The Tourist), along with Paul Giamatti, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Kevin Spacey.

Moving on to Best Drama, we have nominees Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The King's Speech, and the film to beat this award season, The Social Network.

The Noms for Best Drama Actor are Jesse Eisenberg, Colin Firth, Ryan Gosling, Mark Wahlberg, and the coolest straight actor ever, James Franco.

Best Drama Actress nominations go to Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, and Michele Williams.

Any of the nominations (or omissions) surprise you? What are you must happy to see nominated?

The Golden Globes will air on NBC on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 8 PM EST.
