"Alice In Wonderland" Building What May be the Gayest Blockbuster Ever

You're not yet late for a very important date

I can't remember the last time a movie had a marketing push like Tim Burton's reimagining of Alice In Wonderland. Maybe reimagining is the wrong word - according to the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), this is more of a sequel to the classic tale, where Alice has been gone for ten years and the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) has taken over Wonderland. Her sister, the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) has taken a vow of nonviolence and awaits her champion, Alice (Mia Wasikowska).

It's also the biggest movie I can recall with two out actors in major roles, plus gay favs Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway. The Cheshire Cat is played by Stephen Fry, and the Tweedles have been brought to life by comedian Matt Lucas. One of the main things we'll do today is look at how these two characters were brought to life.

This is a magical version of Wonderland, with scenery and even characters more animation that reality, and even more fantastic than Walt Disney's 1951 cartoon. Part of that is the wonderfully trippy mind of Tim Burton, who appears to have been given free reign to create his vision. Combined with his (ab)normal partners in crime of Johnny and Helena, he's built a unique world.

We're going to take a look through some of the extensive press materials they've put out, and see how they built the world and brought new life to the characters we know so well.

We'll start with this Extended Featurette about the world, and the first time we see Matt Lucas talk about the Tweedles.

Next, listen to Tim Burton explain why he made the film, working with Johnny Depp, and why he chose relative unknown Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

Part two of the interview, where he tries to justify Avril Lavigne for the main song. I'm not buying it.

Next: Out actor Matt Lucas talks about the Tweedles.
