Immortal Hotties: A Gallery of Sexy Cinematic Greco-Roman Heroes

Let's not kid ourselves here. While the ancient Greek or Roman epic certainly has literary and cultural value, we also know that films and television shows based on Greek or Roman history and myth also have a side-benefit: a little something I like to call the loincloth.

Here we take a look at some of the most impressive physiques in skimpy costumes that have graced the screens both big and small.

Steve Reeves in Hercules and Hercules Unchained

Though he played a slew of other heroes in sword and sandal films, Steve Reeves is best known for playing the role of Hercules in the spectacularly bad yet somehow still-watchable films by Italian director Pietro Francisci. Cast for his physique rather than his acting ability, Reeves still made quite the impression on viewers, as the films are still cult favorites to this day. Reeves became so well known as the hunky half-naked guy, he even warranted a snarky mention in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Harry Hamlin in Clash of the Titans (1981 version)

Try, if you can, to scrub your memory clean of the awful 2010 "remake" and feast in the simple, silly camp-tastic fun of the original Clash of the Titans, which starred a young Harry Hamlin, who's lean, muscled bod was only upstaged by his staggeringly perfect hair. Truly, a gift from the gods.

Kevin Sorbo in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

Not surprisingly, there are a few Herculeses (Herculi?) on this list, and the second is none other than Kevin Sorbo, who rocked the 90's television landscape with the most memorable leather pants since Jim Morrison. While he had nowhere near the physique of Steeve Reeves, Sorbo brought an unexpected aw-shucks attitude to the role, and while the show will perhaps always be overshadowed by its spin-off successor Xena: Warrior Princess, it's hard to deny Sorbo's appeal.
