J.K. Rowling: Dumbledore is gayWow, if the religious right didn't like the books before... Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall. After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members. She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love." "Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause. She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down." You can read the rest of the story here. I LOVE J.K.!!!!
At this point I'm not sure
I was also very aggravated
I was also very aggravated with "Harry Potter and Camping" (its rightful title), but some parts were golden.
But I am rather pissed that she was too afraid to even mention it- even just a little sentence.
No wonder it took him too
No wonder it took him too long to kick Grindelwald's ass. It wasn't guilt. It wasn't just because they were friends. It was because he was in luuuuurve.
Aaaawwww.
Although I must say the thought of Dumbledore and Grindelwald going at it ala sex-hungry continental twinks between studying and spellcasting is sumkindova weird (and simultaneously hot). Yes, I am shallow and superficial.
JKR is luuuurve.
I knew it!
I don't know about anyone else, but I finished the book convinced that Dumbledore was gay. I think it started with the loving portrait written by his lifelong friend whats-his-name Doge. Then when Harry talked to Doge and he was so protective of Albus and his memory. I thought perhaps I was digging too deeply for gayness, but I had the distinct impression he had been his companion.
Then the description of the photo of he and Grindlewald, the rumors about their friendship and D's past in general, and Rita Skeeter's dubious remark about the relationship between Dumbledore and Harry being "innappropriate".
At the time I thought it was kind of ingenious. She had provided fairly clear indications of a major character's homosexuality without a heavy-handed outing story which can get old. Which was why I was surprised to see people bemoaning the lack of a gay character in HP. Which... made me think I had been reading too much into it. But yay, I was right! :)
Yeah, I did too. I admit,
