As the World Turns Clip update: They're dating! Of course they're hugging. But not kissing. Just hugging!
On today's As the World Turns we might not have got a kiss, but the guys did show up to say a couple of lines. Oh, and they did have this really sweet hug. Can everyone say, "Aww...."
So what led to the big clench? Well, Luke got some bad news about his mom. She overdosed on pills or got trampled by an elephant or something. Like it really matters, right? Anywho, Luke felt bad.
And Noah was aghast when he heard the news!
Naturally, they had to hug of course. Right after that Luke's sisters came in and caught them. They were so horrified, they immediately called the American Family Association to decry having homosexuality shoved down their throats this way. Okay, they really were moppet-adorable and just teased the boys who then babysat them because of the whole "Momma-done-overdosed-again" business. You can see all the bidness after the jump! PS: In case you missed it, check out Brian's hilarious liveblog from earlier today. And as always, you can find earlier Nuke clips, liveblogs, forum threads, and other fun stuff over on our ATWT Resource Page. EDITOR'S UPDATE: AfterElton reader Anthony just let us know that the latest CBS ATWT poll is about which couple is viewer's favorite. Currently Luke and Noah are a distant second. You all know what you must do, right? GO VOTE NOW!

Question of the day
Is the writer for "Leave It To Beaver" been re-employed and is now writing for ATWT? Just wondering.
Cheers

More hugging please!
I like the way you think...
"She overdosed on pills or got trampled by an elephant or something. Like it really matters, right? Anywho, Luke felt bad."
If the KISS campaign doesn't work, we can petition the writers to make Luke feel bad on a regular basis. That way, he will need lots and lots of consoling hugs from you know who.
It's a Start
Hillarious!
I'm sorry, but when Faith and Natalie came down and Natalie (incredulously) asked "Are you hugging?" I broke out laughing because it really underscores that despite the fact that they have been going out for months and Noah is now living at the farm, apparently affectionate contact between Luke and Noah really is a novelty. I think I was just as shocked as Natalie!
What I want to know is: where is Noah sleeping these days? Despite reshuffling the bratz into a single room, it seems that now Meg has also taken asylum at the farm. Is Noah on the couch, in the basement or out in the barn? Because I can scarece imagine that they are now sharing a room. I'm sure that P&G are hoping that viewers don't think that deeply into it. Otherwise they'll be pressured to show Luke and Noah in bed together (God forbid!).
As an aside, the new, wussy, insecure Noah is beginning to grate on my nerves. I think I preferred him when he projected an air of false confidence. Now he apologizes so much you'd think he was Canadian (sorry to any Canucks out there, got that one from a Tanya Huff novel).
You can be an honorary Canuck
Now he apologizes so much you'd think he was Canadian (sorry to any Canucks out there, got that one from a Tanya Huff novel).
For that apology, you get an honorary Canadian citizenship. ;)
Cool
Sure come on up
we would love you to boost our economy! Your remark about Canadians being polite and apologizing is not far off the mark, I catch myself doing it sometimes. I remember my Dad near the end of his life giving money to a homeless person. He missed her cup, turned back and put the money in the cup, and apologized to her for missing it! That was one of my fondest memories of him, a kind person at heart.

Thanks but...
...I'm far too much of a belligerent American to fit in up there. There's a reason the whole world hates us but not you. Despite George Bush's claim that it's our "freedom" that they hate. Being foreigners, you clearly aren't "free" in our president's book. The again, your PM is rather like the Anakin Skywalker to our President/Emperor Palpatine at times and for God's sake please do not let the Tories win the next election!
That said, I do find Canadians (excepting the would-be Republicans in your current government, and maybe the population of Alberta) to be lovely people. I have this theory that cooler climates produce more even-tempered people. The Scandinavians are similarly nice. If I could just find a way to explain the Russians my theory would be complete.
I Personally Love Americans
which makes me a bit of an outcast in Canada. I like the optimistic, can do attitude. Also I was conceived in Washington DC so maybe I am an honorary American (lol)? The only thing that concerns me about the US these days (other than the Christian right) is its' unwillingness to tackle its' internal issues. Health care, bad public education, a ballooning debt, social security, and a military that always seems good at getting more and more expensive toys by keeping everyone in fear. Now they are talking openly about China as a future threat! Gotta keep the public paronoid by invoking the infamous "yellow" peril of yesteryear. Oh well, hopefully you will not elect another George Bush type President. That guy is so bad I don't even bother making fun of him, he is too easy a target, like shooting fish in a barrel.
Your theory about colder climates is partially right, also Canada was developed for the most part by reticent Brits and dour Scots!

I'm glad you like us because
personally I can barely stand us most of the time. We say we stand for all these great ideals and then flout them constantly. It drives me crazy to hear Americans going on about what a good thing we did by getting rid of Saddam without having the least clue that we put him there! And we love freedom yet hand billions over to the oil countries who then treat their own populations horribly. No wonder the Arab streets hate us so much.
And so many of us have no idea what is going on right. The Bush administration should be in jail and that isn't just rhetoric. I wonder how many Americans understand the seriousness of the missing White House emails which mysteriously correspond to scandals like Valerie Plame and WMD. The Bushies destroyed government property (belongong to the US citizens). That's seriously illegal! Imagine if a major corporation were to suddenly announce to it's shareholders angry over it's performance that they suddenly couldn't find any of its emails for top officials. Shareholders would scream bloody murder. But here we're too busy reading Lindsay and Britney to know what is going on.
And don't even get me started on the environment. We consume more than anyone else, pollute more than anyone else, and then get sanctimonious about it. And I forgave folks for falling for Bush's crap the first time and giving him enough votes so that the Supreme Court could haul him over the finish line, but the fact that Kerry didn't win by a landslide
Sorry, it's too early on a Sunday for me to get this worked up!
I see I hit a tender
spot. Couldn't agree with you more about the Iraq war. I always found it ironic that George Bush, Yale grad in History, blundered into Iraq, a country that has never really been a country but a collection of warring tribes ruled with an iron fist by a dictator. Even if Saddam had nukes he never would have used them against the USA, he was too much a calculating psychopath worried about preserving his own skin. The Bush administrations excuse that they got rid of a terrible dictator was pure humbug. What about all the terrible dictators in Africa or Asia, why not topple them? Could it be because of all the oil in the Middle East? I feel sorry for all the soldiers who have lost their lives or been permanently maimed. They were sent over to a needless war, what a waste.
As for the environment, well again I can't disagree but I won't be too harsh on Americans, the Canadians are not exactly great either, especially with the Alberta oil sands. I am some day going to write a blog on MySpace. "Living in a Bubble Society" about the fact that North America (the USA and Canada) is oblivious to the rest of the world in the destructive way we live. Oversized vehicles, oversized people, consumed by celebrities and ignorant of how others live or the problems facing the human race. I spent two weeks in Paris in 2001. I saw maybe two SUVs and very few obese people. The only grossly obese people I saw were from North America.

Politics, Media
Hi Michael!
Great observations. Perhaps AE could include a weekly "in politics" segment. It would blend nicely with AE's "News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media" mandate.

The Snyder farmhouse
What I want to know is: where is Noah sleeping these days? Despite reshuffling the bratz into a single room, it seems that now Meg has also taken asylum at the farm.
I'm thinking the Snyder farmhouse is made of the same material as the Tardis from Dr. Who. Bigger on the inside, innit?
The Guys Are In First Place, Actually.....
Luke and Noah are in first place in the CBS poll, with over 50% of the vote. The poll is hard to read because of the way it's presented. You have to look at the line above Luke and Noah (and the other couples) names to see where they really place.
The votes currently are:
Brad and Katie 9.18%
Henry and Vienna 7.72%
Katie and Jack 8.03%
Luke and Noah 52.87%
Carly and Jack 15.02%
Paul and Meg 7.19%
That's a relief!
I was wondering why Katie & Jack would be anyone's "favorite couple to watch".
Nuke is up to 53.71% now, well ahead of Carly & Jack's 14.63%.
Sorry about that! The way that stupid poll
Luke and Noah are # 1.
Luke and Noah's New Storyline
We haven't heard much about Luke and Noah's new storyline other than the actors are very excited about it, it starts in mid-Feburary and they're going to have lots of airtime as a result. Today though we got word that an actress named Talia Ashe has been cast in the role of Ameera and she's somehow linked to both Luke and Noah. She's Middle-Eastern, visiting from Iraq and wants to make a new life in Oakdale.
For a pic go here:
http://welovesoaps.blogspot.com/2008/01/atwt-casting-news.html
My speculation is that she turns out to be Noah's long lost sister (there is a striking resemblance) and when she needs to stay in this country for some reason only the soap gods know, Noah will convince Luke to marry her. Luke does and then Noah's sister turns out to be not so sweet and wants her brother's boyfriend all to herself. Through the use of drugs and wearing a Noah wig, she'll trick Luke into sleeping with her ('I thought it was you, Noah, I swear!) and then find herself preggers with Holden and Lily's first grandchild.
Please say it isn't so!
People don't laugh too loudly about the part of drugs and this chick wearing a Noah wig as Faith has gotten more action withe Parker than Luke has with Noah, so any savvy she-devil coud confuse our young hero........... Can you imagine? All of a sudden all parents of gay kids get all excited about ways to try to get their kids to produce grandchildren.......

I Predict That....
..... given that the character doesn't debut for another month, Luke and Noah will have had sex by then. I mean, Luke is no longer using the cane (or he wasn't on Friday's show) so we can only assume they'll get that business out of the way before moving on to this new story.
I was just speculating really. I have no idea what the show is doing or where they are going with this story, but I truly doubt either of them will be sleeping with her. As it's just a casting note, I'm reserving judgement before I hear more.... or see it on screen. Like you said, it's all in the execution.
Luke and Noah are obviously carrying on
with all the HOT MAN-ON-MAN ACTION intensity of Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka (my favorite gay couple du jour). The trouble is it's all taking place off screen.

U.S bashing
Actually China has surpassed the U.S. as a producer of greenhouse gases. There have been reports that many cities do not see the sun as a result of the pollution. Cancer and lead poisoning have become the #1 killer of children. The pollution from China settles over Korea and Japan. Most of the pollution particulate over L.A. is from China. There are many areas of the coastline that can no longer sustain marine life as a result of pollution caused red algae. The unemployment rate in Europe is about as high as the U.S. but the length of time people are unemployed is much greater. Racism is on the increase as foreign labor is blamed for enemployment similar to the Mexican immigration hysteria in the U.S. While I am no supporter of George Bush or Republicans in general I am glad that a dictator like Putin does not reign supreme over the U.S. government for as long as he chooses. The problems with tribal warfare in Africa or sectarian violence in the middle east are not a U.S caused problem. I do believe that the Bush administration used the fear of terrorism to promote their own agenda and that they got us into a situation that is draining our countries wealth and contributing to dangerous instability in the middle east Not to mention the loss of human life. Overall I would say that the world has a serious problem and that problem is us.
Actually...
...a sizeable chunk of the sectarian violence in the Middle East IS our fault, inasmuch as we have, for decades, taken sides in the regional conflicts there and provided training, money and weaponry. Let us not forget that that during the 80's, in our anti-communist zeal, we supported and encouraged the Taliban of Afghanistan and bankrolled Saddam Hussein in a proxy war against Iran that allowed him to build his massive military. Additionally, we have long propped up the monumentally corrupt Saudi government, known terrorist coddlers and outrageous human rights abusers, all because they have oil. We tend to forget things that far back (being barely able to remember who one the first season of American Idol), but in that part of the world where grievances are nursed for generations these facts are widely remembered.
Even China is partly our fault. Yes they are an epic polluter. But ask yourself how much of their cut-rate, environmentally-unfriendly industry is geared towards providing us with cheap consumer products we yearn for. All we've done is move objectional industrial practices that we don't want here on U.S. soil to China where they can be done more cheaply, and with less concern about worker's well-being or environmentalists' incessant demands.
Just because we shovel our shit overseas doesn't mean we didn't make it in the first place.
AferElton is not
supposed to be about politics so much, but I love talking about current events. The North American lifestyle is envied around the world due to the internet and television. That is not necessarily a good thing though. If people think China has pollution problems now, wait another 10 to 15 years when the number of vehicles on the road explodes. Can the world cope with 2.3 billion people in China and Inda aspiring to similar lifestyles seen in the USA and Canada? I highly doubt it. Jared Diamond's book "Collapse" is a sobering account of what has happened to past civilizations that had their environment's collapse.
As for the USA's involvement in the Middle East, I could not agree more. I personally would not pick sides in the Israeli-Palestinian problems, there is no "good guy, bad guy" in that area of the world, it is far too complex a situation to reduce it to a black and white one. The result has been tremendous bitterness in the Arab world. Saudi Arabia is one of the most oppressive regimes in the world, and one that could fall apart at a moments notice. Unemployment runs at 20% among youth mainly because they are taught in religious schools which does not provide them with the skills necessary to cope in the modern world. Want a recipe for disaster? Have a large number of young, frustrated males with little to do exempt think about raising cain. It is no coincidence that the majority of the 9/11 hijackers were young Saudi males.
Cheers

actually/partly
It is a mistake to place most of the blame for the world's problems on the U.S. To do so fails to recognize the full picture and makes the resolution of the problems highly unlikely. While the U.S. is the largest and easiest target let's not forget the role other governments play in this. As an example the Russian government continues to aid Iran in achieving nuclear power and shows no signs of stopping. European governments stand on the sidelines. Does their silence absolve them of responsibility? Does China's acceptance of other peoples crap absolve them of active participation in the overall problem? I agree that this is not a forum for political analysis but since the topic was brought up I could not stand on the sidelines.
Kelly Clarkson was the first American Idol winner, beating out Justin Guarini. She was then forced to sing the abysmal hit song " A Moment Like This". If memory fases there is always Wikipedia. Of course there are also blogs on every topic imaginable
Please say it isn't so, response
I can't imagine what the connection could be. I also hope that she does not come between the couple. I would welcome a character like Jade who for all her manipulations was supportive of Luke no matter what. The girl actually looks like she could be a fit for Aaron. Just so long as we don't get another Sophie. I am more interested in the character to be played by Eric William Morris who will be associated with Casey. As I have posted elsewhere it seems that ATWT is populating itself with young actors perhaps to save money. Based on their casting history I would say that no good can come of this. I thought the hugging scene and the girls walking in on them was pretty natural. If Noah was not in the farmhouse the girls probably would be less aware of their physical affection for each other. I also thought Noah's response was great. Maybe we and ATWT will get to second base with these changes but unfortunately I don't hold out much hope and can only hope we are proven wrong.

Interruption pay scale ?
I think the girls are getting paid by Grandma for each time they interrupt the boys. $25 for hand holding, $50 for hugging and $100 for a kiss.
Had the strangest thought when Luke teases his sister about dating boys. You know how in soap operas a character can be a little kid one day and then a little while later they suddenly age a couple of years into a teenager. So In theory, if we had one of these aging spurts, Luke’s sisters could end up dating and seeing some action before anything develops between him and Noah.
