Gay contestants on reality TV - 2/22/08 EW Article

While nothing in this short article fro this week's Entertainment Weekly will surprise anyone who's grown up watching reality television, it points to gay inclusion in the genre as serving to increase gay acceptance.

Besides it being a gay-friendly piece, it asks the following, very important, question pertaining to the bromance that is apparently taking place between Ronnie and Ben on Make Me A Supermodel:

"Should we actually be rooting for Ronnie and Ben to hook up? Probably not. But it's hard to avoid. They're pretty adorable together."

This is def. a topic worth much deeper analysis than the light and unfocused treatment that EW gave it, but still worth reading, especially for those who have watched very little reality TV and never saw the Pedro Zamoras of the world in action.

I just read that article

You're right it was a good article. What I have been seeing on boards for shows that feature any gay charachters is pretty telling. Most of the chatter concentrates on the gay characters. I happened to glance at the Make Me a Supermodel board and Ronnie and Ben have 3 to 4 times the traffic that any of the other characters or the show itself. Maybe it's just because these shows have more gay or gay friendly audiences. I just enjoy the fact that we do have an easy way of expressing our opinion to the shows and their sponsers.

I also just read the article

....and I too thought it was good. I'm from Canada and same-sex marriage is legal now although we still have (like many other places in the world) that stupid old mentality that 'it's a sin to be gay.' Whatever, you can't please everyone. I think that's it's cool that a straight guy is 'enamoured' by a gay guy. It just goes to show that Alfred Kinsey was right in his Kinsey scale. There are no clear cut definintions when it comes to sexuality and sadly, many people still just don't get it. It's 2008! C'mon people....progress already. Live and let live, I always say. I could go on and on...but I won't. Peace Everybody.
