A crappy repackaging of Will & Grace and the boobs behind it.So, as you may have read on AfterElton yesterday Max Mutchnick and David Kohan are making a new comedy for ABC.Let me get right to the point.I'm here to slam them and their new show.I'm already hoping this show tanks. Why?Where do I begin? "The as-yet-untitled show tells the story of two friends and writing partners - one straight, one gay - who navigate love and work with one another's help and support."I will say that i'm reserving final judgement until i've acutually seen it, but i'm already rolling my eyes going into this.Having seen their formula in action, how much do you want to bet that this turns into the straight, macho, sports loving guy learns about culture and getting in touch with his feminine side from the more docile, gentle, soft gay guy and vice versa show?Do we really need to see the sitcom version of Queer eye for the straight guy?......again!It reminds of this article I saw online after that show took off that had a picture of these 2 guys. One was a kind of tossled looking guy with a backwards baseball cap and a guy next to him with these tight pants and a turtle neck sweater with a glass of wine.Based on that illustration, which do you think is the straight one and which do you think is the gay one?I'm so sick of seeing that, and am willing to bet any amount of money that that's what we'll get from this duo because that's their M.O.Does anyone remember Twins, that horrendous sitcom they did about the 2 sisters for the WB?What kind of gay character did they have on that show? That's right......a flamboyant assistant who didn't even get to kiss his boyfriend on screen. Aside from that I find both of them to be personally irritating people because of their i'll-only-be-gay-on-straight-peoples'-terms attitudes and politics. When I think about some of the shit i've heard them say in interviews it just makes me mad. They just irk me.In an interview about this new sitcom Mutchnick was asked if the gay guy would have as fully developed a love life as the straight guy, and had the nerve to say "Yes. (The gay character) is in the thick of a very serious relationship in the pilot."Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Apparently to Mutchnick a serious relationship between 2 men means occasionally hugging each other.I'm already getting enough of that horse shit from As the world turns right now.I don't need any extra from some lame ass new version of Will & Grace from these 2 jackoffs. I couldn't agree with you
Sitcom Formulas
are easier to sell to TV executives then something that may make people sit up and take notice, or even worse make them feel uncomfortable. Sometimes when people feel uncomfortable they turn the channel and miss all the commericals which of course is the main reason there is a TV show (it is not to entertain).
The TV shows I really enjoyed over the past 40+ years were those that were a bit outside the mainstream, and were not afraid to rock the boat. Here are a few that I came up with.
- All In The Family
- MASH (the early years)
- The Golden Girls (showing older women as sexually active)
- Hill Street Blues
- The Tracey Ullman Show
- The Simpsons
- Sex & The City
Sadly I think you are right abut this new show, the gay guy probably is the guy in the turtleneck, tight pants and drinking wine (I would be wearing the baseball cap backwards but drinking wine, I hate turtle necks).
Cheers

I gave up on Will and Grace
after Season 4 when it became apparent that Grace would get all the men and Will would be there to pick up the pieces when the relationships fell apart.
And to be a little off topic, anyone notice how often Eric McCormack would mention his wife/marriage during interviews. I wanted to yell "WE GET IT, YOU'RE NOT GAY YOU JUST PLAY ONE ON TELEVISION."
Don't trouble yourself Doctor -- I'm a celebrity, I'll write my own prescription.
i hear ya....

^ i didn't watch Will and Grace much when it was on...but i hate when straight actors feel the need to do that. i sometimes wonder to myself, "are you trying to convince the fans or yourself about your sexuality?" - - annoying as hell.
extremely annoying
Usually find myself timing just how long into the interview it takes before the wife/girlfriend gets mentioned, because you know, for the most part they will be. Its pretty rare when an actor will play gay and not mention a wife/girlfriend. Find it extremely annoying too.
