Jack/Gwen spoilers for upcoming episodesFrom torchwood Magazine #2 "Gwens Wedding
but what about jack? the unspoken feelings that the captain has for his second in command have been bubbling under since his return at the start of the series, so will he really stand by and let gwen slip away once and for all? I guess we shouldn't put a lot of hope into Jack/Ianto now. I thought a show with gay men as the lead and it's creator, they would portray a loving long-term relationship between two men, I guess I am wrong. At least we still have Nuke even if there isn't any kissing between them, we know they love each other and not anyone else.

jigga whaaaat?
I wouldn't count out Jack and Ianto just yet....
He said that they clash over what is best for her, that's it. There is tension there, of course, they have to keep the non Janto fans happy too, but as for it ending up with Jack and Gwen as a couple or anything, I don't think it is gonna happen. I think it would be way OOC to portray Jack as just loving Ianto, and the way I am taking it so far is that Ianto is fine with that as well. Do I want them to be together? Hell yeah! Do I expect to see them together more...Yes. Will it last? Well, I dunno, I am gonna bet no. At this point I am just really hoping that John Barrowman and company decide there should be a season three so that we can see where the whole thing goes.
Jack isn't gay
Jack was the one who ask Ianto out
Jack isn't gay I know that but he was one who ask Ianto out and Ianto only agree to it if Jack is serious about wanting a relationship with him. Ianto gave Jack another chance to back out of their relationship when he ask Jack "if he going back to his own time." It quite obivous Ianto don't want an open relationship when he got jealous of Captain John, Jack should stop stringing Ianto along and end the realationship before anyone get hurt before he become like Gwen from Season 1.
Jack is a challenge
It all boils down to what we, the viewers, really would want to see. Because Jack himself has endless options.
Remember that he's immortal. Even if he were to settle into a monogamous relationship he wouldn't really be giving up all that much since any partner would eventually die. Indeed, he could go on being a serial monogamist for aeons to come and still have a pretty wild and diverse sex life.
Now, that raises the question: is Jack more likely to be monogamous with Gwen than he is with Ianto? Gwen herself is not an especially faithful person. Maybe that's a point in her favor in Jack's mind versus Ianto since he figures any relationship with her would be a open one. Of course, I don't think she thinks that given her possessiveness and the way she clings to Rhys, even when she was cheating with Owen and even now when the question stands of whether she could have Jack. But Jack may think she's more open than she is.
Ianto on the other hand has demonstrated that his commitment, once gained, is absolute. The scanty info we have on Ianto suggests that he is likely to be a monogamist. Now, if I were Jack I wouldn't worry much about that given my own life expectency. But who knows what he thinks?
However, we're our world here and the question is what is expected of Jack as a character. Truthfully he actually isn't as much of a sex fiend as his reputation suggests. I mean, who have we actually seen him have sex with? Nobody, not even Ianto. He flirts a lot but we haven't actually seen much action from him besides man-on-man deep kissing with the real Jack and with Ianto. Not complaining here by the way. But would the audience be okay with a committed Jack as opposed to an available Jack? Or do they prefer keeping the fanfic boards humming by hinting at every imaginable possibility?
Also, I find it interesting the way that he drops statements about past homosexual liasons when talking to Gwen. There was the twin acrobats thing. Then this last episode there was the "Have you ever eaten alien meat?" thing. Either he thinks she's likely to be excited by the idea or he's dropping hints to back off. Not really sure which.
I wonder how much of that is script and how much is ad lib? Obviously, Jack is omnisexual but John Barrowman is gay. Torchwood is probably a relief from his usual leading man roles in that so far most of the kissing has been with men.
Ridiculous
Jack and Gwen have the depth of a puddle. There is so nothing there and the fact that TPTB are trying to make a sad triangle out of Jack/Ianto/Gwen plays to the weakness of this show. Let's not turn this into Dawson's Creek. Torchwood isnt going to give but a few minutes each episode on the personal relationships of the team. That is not how the show is built. The fans love Jack/Ianto. So to borrow tired soap plots they throw Gwen into the mix to build the angst and ust. I am sure Gwen is being written that she thinks that Jack feels something for her. In "Meat" when she was kissing Rhys and looking straight at Jack was just plain stupid. But if that is what TPTB want to feed fans, then I guess we take it with the more meaningful, fun, sexy, downright hot moments with get of Jack/Ianto.
So Phil can spin the premise that Jack and Gwen have some deep attration to each other. I am so not buying what Phil is trying to sell.
Nah. I wouldn't worry about
