Desperately Seeking Gays on Scripted TV: Weekly Easter Eggs

Given the continued lack of gay visibility in any of the scripted shows on television, I’ve found myself looking for any signs that there may be gay people that I've not been introduced to populating my favorite shows. Sometimes, the show-runners make it virtually impossible to let my imagination to do its thing, but most weeks nuggets are there just like the "Easter Eggs" that Lost’s runners give hard-core fans.

I am currently working on providing a frothy weekly status report involving my favorite scripted TV shows, which I will try to share with you guys here. For now, I’ll share with you my favorite from last week's list, which comes from the 2/21/208 episode of Lost. That makes it the second time in three weeks that there might be signs of gay life in the island.

During last week's episode our comedic duo of Hurley and Sawyer are about to really start getting into watching "the so bad, it’s just bad" Xanadu, but Kate rudely interrupts them before they get into it. Ownership of the movie Xanadu makes a compelling case that one of "The Others" might be gay, as even hard core gay movie fans don’t own the movie. Netflix at best. The soundtrack is another story as it's a classic, and even straight guys have been to known to buy CD replacements for their LP originals.

That would bring our potential Lost gay male count to three, and that assumes that the Xanadu-owner was single and did not have any "like-minded" friends. As some may know, two episodes ago, I saw a hot male castaway’s hand reach out to another male hottie’s hand as they took off with Locke and left Jack’s group behind. Unless the second guy had some type of injury, which did not seem to be the case, they may have been the first gays that I have noticed since I started watching years ago as that hand was very friendly! Maybe the gay castaways will find Xanadu and decide that it’s just not very good no matter how “gay” it’s believed to be. If they get bored they an always play in those cages that Freckles and Sawyer were kept in last season. Very primal.....
