Van Hansis signs new contract with As the World Turns

There has been a ton of speculation over what is going to happen with Luke and Noah on ATWT now that Noah is getting hitched to Ameera. And a lot of that speculation has centered around whether Nuke was getting dumped from the show altogether due to the controversy. Part of that speculation is fueled by the fact that Van Hansis' contract is about to expire and supposedly hasn't been renewed by the show. Well, good news then — according to a source very close to the show, Van has re-signed with the show and won't be going anywhere.

Jake Silbermann, however, is still a recurring character and will continue as such for now meaning he isn't signed to a contract like Van. But my source says there are no plans at this time for Jake to exit the show either.

I want to again emphasize I've been told repeatedly that Noah isn't going back into the closet and won't suddenly develop romantic feelings for Ameera. But, just as I said w-a-a-y back when Luke came out and again when Noah joined the show, this is a soap opera and the very nature of soaps is conflict. Lovers cheat, get addicted to drugs, are possessed by demons, kidnapped, have fights, etc. And I don't expect Nuke's storyline to be any different.

In fact, I'd be annoyed if they were. My litmus test for how a show treats its gay characters is that it handles them the same way as the others on their show. That means, of course, that ATWT has failed when it comes to matters of Nuke kissing and consummating their relationship — no small thing. But I don't have a problem with Noah marrying Ameera or any of the other complications that will ensue. And I'm told they will ensue and things will get complicated for our guys.

But for those, like me, who think the show has done more things right than wrong, the news that Van is sticking around is great news indeed. Long live Nuke and their problems.

YAY!

Thanks for the news! I'm so happy P&G values Van as much as the fans who have been campaigning in support of him and his storyline.

Now, time to sign up Jake as well.

You might want to put a hyphen in the first paragraph ("resigned"). It confused me.

Wedding Schmedding

I'm not really sure what people are concerned about the wedding for. It's not going to happen, or if it does, it will be annulled quickly, because all the signs have been put into place that Noah and Ameera are siblings.

1) the whole Captain Pervy and her mom thing

2) the endless whining from Noah about not having a family thing

3) the Ameera calling Noah her brother in the hospital thing

4) the whole Fed saying "spouse or relative" thing.

It's been about as subtle as the zoom in on Noah's bag before it was rifled thing.

On another note, how did Casey get out of jail with long hair and manlights?, I thought they kept eveyone's hair short in the joint?

Incest Marriage

I guess Noah is no longer Noah. We shall call him "Pervy Junior".

Van's Contract

According to a source at SoapCentral.com, Van's contract isn't up til May.  What's the story?
marcella's picture

They always start

They always start negotiating these things early, in case it takes a while.

Martha Byrne's (Lily) contract isn't up un tilthe end of April, but the negotiations have already come and gone and now we know that she is leaving. Things worked out in Van's case, I guess.

Who Really Gives A Sh*t!

Big deal! So they re-signed Van to a new contract? The current Nuke storyline STILL sucks BIGTIME and the viewers are more than pissed off! TPTB at ATWT have shot this Nuke S/L right through the heart with all their bullshit dialog and stupid, asinine, ignorant goo-goo eyed looks that they give each other and the ridiculous touchy-feely crap.

This non-kiss status has gone on so long and is so blatant that there is no saving this dying S/L. P & G, CBS, and TPTB can try and feed us all the bullshit they want, but the bottom line is, this Nuke love affair is in the proverbial toilet!

The audience knows what the hell is going on and is leaving this disaster by droves.

too bad he re-signed....

like I've said before....good for the show for having luke and noah as a couple and yeah...i am all for drama....but i still think the pan aways have screwed over a lot of fans and i think it's just insulting to the actors themselves.

with all that said, i think van deserves more...and i think ATWT is not doing him justice. but eh...his choice. we'll see what goes down.

Good for Van.

I just hope TPTB start giving Luke and Noah not only some kisses, but a genuinely interesting story. I want some melodrama--cheating, blackmail, accusations, trials, etc.--not this deadly dull sham wedding s/l. Maybe they can put Eric William Morris (Matt) on contract and have him seduce Luke as part of some grand Gray Girard scheme to destroy ALL the families in Oakdale....

Mheh..........

I just finished watching the latest episode of Hollyoaks and I'm sorta over the whole Nuke thing. When you have not only gay characters who kiss but hot gay priests who want to break their vows it sorta makes Nuke boring. I would love to see what would happen if an American soap went as far as British television has. I guess if I want fully integrated gay characters I'll find UK shows online. Until then I'll still watch Nuke but if I happen to miss an episode it won't break my heart.

Oddly comforted that Nuke isn't the only storyline gone haywire.

Having watched Nuke develop since last spring, I have unavoidably become familiar with some of the other storylines. I watched in disbelief today as Gwen had a sudden epiphany and gave her adopted baby back to the birth mother after having just fought it out in court a few episodes ago to keep the baby from the same birth mother. Clearly, Nuke isn't the only storyline that's taken abrupt turns recently. Soap operas often have absurd storylines, but they don't typically reverse course abruptly. Given that, I'm holding out hope that at least the asylum marriage storyline was hatched during the strike and will be binned rather quickly.

Unfortunately, the no-kissing rule seems to be coming from executives above the writers, so that's one thing I don't expect will change soon.

Gwen, the baby and other questionable decisions.

Not to go off-topic and discuss straight characters on a soap opera, but, omg, how utterly, utterly ridiculous was that? It wasn't only that Gwen gave the baby back to the spineless Sofie, but that she also did this behind Will's back, thus not only displaying unusually poor judgment, but also betraying her husband, a man she has ripped into repeatedly for "betraying"her! Un-freaking-believable!

And then you have Susan casually giving Emily some prescription medication; Emily then pouring said medication into Chris' drink just before he's supposed to go back to the hospital (and potentially kill a patient in his drugged state); Vienna bouncing from Gray's arms back into Henry's arms (after Brad, waking up in Henry's arms, asked him if he was "questioning his manhood"--thus equating only heterosexuality with genuine masculinity); and Sofie letting herself once again be manipulated by a man.

If it weren't for Alison being smart to be wary of Matt, I'd say this one of the worst episodes I'd ever seen; at the very least, it regrettably justified accusations that the show seemingly "hates" women--or anybody who isn't "a real man".

I swear, I wanted to throw a brick at my TV.

I just can't watch it anymore-it's too painful

I just can't watch this crappy NUKE/Ameera/no kissing/no sex storyline anymore.  I will just keep tabs on it through AfterElton and if it gets reasonable again...maybe I will tune in.

Let us pray that this entire storyline is simply a prelude to incredibly hot make-up sex. All together now, focus that positive man-smex energy!

Totally, Joseph....

" I swear, I wanted to throw a brick at my TV."

Absolutely I agree. No WAY would Gwen do that. They just have to quickly wrap up her story line because she is leaving. Do these folks not spend more than 5 minutes on the script? Honestly.

I'm with you. I think there is more right with Luke/Noah then wrong. I admit it will be hard to watch Noah marry Ameera. I can't stand her and Luke looks like his heart is breaking. But you're right athough the lack of kissing is silly the actual story with the Ameera complication is a soap standard. Just like Jack/Carly fans hate Katie so we will hate Ameera. I will keep watching them because I like them. The acting by Jake and Van is always excellent.

Interesting Timing....

ATWT usually keeps contract talks close to the vest.  So this is interesting timing to say the least and I'm sure there are many reasons behind making this annoucment now  I'll admit I thought the show would not keep Van or Jake so this is a big surprise.  And I'm delighted that I was wrong.

And like you Micheal, I think the show has been on the right side with this story than on the wrong one.  By far.  And I also don't have a problem with the Ameera storyline and actually kinda like it.  If there weren't about a dozen plot holes I'd love it.  Green card marriages have been done before and they will be again.  Luke's mom Lily was actually part of one a few years back when Simon and Katie were married so Simon could stay in the USA and be with Lily.  Of course, Simon and Katie ended up falling in love... luckily that won't happen here!

Thanks for the info.

Ameera is no Simon

Luke gets shafted again. I don't think that it's valid to compare Simon and Ameera's green card stories as Simon's storyline meant to give this charmer more life on the show as he quickly become one of ATWT's most popular characters/actors. So much tha he stills comes back to seduce a local lady needing some loving.

To me, Ameera is nothing more than a plot devise meant to cock block Nuke. I am more bothered by how boring and insulting her character is than why she was introduced as we know Nuke would not find one another's lips even if alone in a motel room at the Wagon Wheel.

Romance anyone?

P&GP doesn't seem to have any problem leaking contract information when it suits them.

I just hope that this means Luke is finally going to be allowed to develop some kind of decent romance before they decide to throw another monkey wrench into his love life. Other characters are allowed to have romance before their love is compromised.

Nuke were good in the past, for a few short months. I don't know how to weigh that against the current story except that I find it increasing more difficult to believe that Noah and Luke are really in love, despite the excellent acting. I'm pissed at P&G because they took that away from me and as silly as it sounds, that was something I used to look forward to. If they do come out of this I don't know if I can trust Nuke with my admiration. The current sham marriage isn't so much teasing or even nerve wracking as it is nauseating and insulting. Is this the future of Nuke?
