Gay character on Lost revealed *spoilers*

It's Tom, a member of the Others who was killed off last season.

Like other deceased characters, he showed up in a flashback in yesterday's episode "Meet Kevin Johnson."

Here are the links to the two scenes he appeared in. The second one is the one where it's revealed he's gay.

Scene 1.

Scene 2.

The whole episode is available online.

It should be noted that one of the writers of the episode was  Brian K. Vaughan, who is very gay-friendly.

Lost "outing" is a bust for me. No reason and bad execution.

Spoiler talk continued......

I've been a huge Lost fan from day 1, but this season has raised its game to a new level of excellence by engaging the mind, heart, imagination, and other places that I did not know it could touch. In my mind, this is what must see TV is about.

I've been so into the show that I've taking my watching to a new level by using the show's Easter Eggs to present a case that there is and has been gay life in the island. There was a little a little hand-holding between to hotties, a copy of Xanadu found where The Others used to live, but the last thing that I wanted to find was the confirmation of gay character whose "outing" brought nothing new to the table, except a bad taste probably intended for a little surprise element.

The blink and you'll miss it scene that reveals that one of The Others likes to have gay sex with one-note tricks when he comes and goes from the island. When straight characters hook up in flash-backs/flash-forwards, their counterparts at least have a reason to be there, get some lines, and the sex plays into the story.

I will of course continue to watch this show until its very last frame as one less than stellar decision is not a big deal, I was really bummed to see that the creators chose to include "gay/bisexual?" in the flip way that it did. Tom is a secondary character who is dead and the quick "reveal" kiss with his trick seemed to be more for the sake of maintaining the OMG momentum than blind casting or wanting to finally address homosexuality/bisexuality in any way that it adds something to the show.

While it may have seemed like an insulting cliche to some, why not have Michael having had a post-return relationship with a man? A scene ot two of the gay guy leaving Michael as he's too much to handle or something given that he wants to kill himself at every turn. The show has had more than one leading black male character so it would not have been like the only black character is on the DL or something.

Gay or no gay I admit that I would have been let down as Michael is a character that already had his moment on the show and not worthy of the full hour or more to bring close to his arch. Also after so many incredible cliffghangers, the arrows and those hit did not leave me on the edge of my seat.

This is still my current favorite show on TV and can't wait until it comes back. For those who need to sample something new, you may want to give Eli Stone a try if you have not. Nothing like Lost but a breezy show with sexy guys which has Grey's Anatomy meets Boston Legal all over it. There is def. gay going on there and I am talking about more than its creator.
