When enough is enough.
I haven't had a whole lot to say about the trainwreck that used to be the Nuke storyline, but i'm here to announce that i'm officially done with As the world turns. In the Two gay guys vlog Brent and Michael try, as they have many times before, to put the situation in perspective and defend the show. While I agree that we probably shouldn't be spewing as much vitriol as we have been no amount of spin is going to change the fact that this show is just no longer worth watching. We can talk about the "movement" all day long, but this is still a TV show whose purspose is to entertain and I no longer enjoy watching the Nuke storyline, so what's the point?I'm not seeing what I want to see.
It's bordering on just being insulting at this point.Speaking of which, i'm a little tired of hearing about how we should give credit where it is NOT due and be grateful for being thrown a few crumbs while straights get a feast.I keep hearing people basically say "would you rather have nothing at all?"You know what?It doesn't matter one way, or the other because again......what's the point if they've made it so I don't even want to watch it anymore anyway?
It would've been one thing if they had been keeping Nuke from hooking up to build up sexual tension.Sometimes that's enjoyable to watch, and keeps you coming back for more, but this Ameera/marriage thing has crossed the line.I'm done.Again, I think it's a false choice between having shit we've always been given and having no gay characters on this show at all.If you're not going to do this storyline, and I mean really do it, then why start it in the first place?I'm not interested in seeing characters who are gay in name only.
You want to talk about the messages that get sent? How about this?Don't get me all excited about a gay storyline to then just intentionally run it into the ground, Don't make promises you don't plan on keeping, and don't lie to me by saying you're going to do one thing then turn around and do the opposite. It's been demonstrated before that gay, even when overt, can sell.Nuke was popular, so why poeple keep acting like them kissing will drive away viewers en masse is confusing.
....And my final message.....Thanks for the 2006-2007 Luke build up, CBS.I would also like to thank you for the very steamy kiss Nuke shared.I'll enjoy watching them on Youtube, but sadly our relationship must end because my needs are no longer being met. You've been ignoring me for months now, and i've had it.Goodbye.
While i'm on the subject, i'm also going to stop watching Greek. Here's another gay character/storyline that had potential, but is now treading down the same road as so many others.Calvin, the gay guy on the show, spent all of last season in the closet. He was regularly hooking up with this guy in secret, but not only we're they never shown kissing, but Calvin barely got any screen time on his own.....all the while all the straight kids on the show are having random hookups left and right.I mean there's this one chick who keeps bouncing back and forth between these two guys like a game of pong.
In the season finale he gets accidentally outed to his fraternity, who make it clear they don't want him.He hands in his pledge pin and walks. This past Monday was the start of season 2 where by the end of the episode he had gone from a fraternity pledging, hockey playing guy with a potential boyfriend to the gay best friend of the chick who outed him and listening to everyone else talk about their relationships.Sound familiar? It really is disappointing how many gay characters/storylines have the potential to break that pattern, and then just end up in that mold anyway. It's seems like the only good gay stuff to watch is on youtube from other countries.
