FINALLY! ATWT gets its lowest ratings since November 2007

I hope that Nuke's treatment, Martha Byrne's dismissal and general lameness had something to do with it. Nothing will change unless the ratings for this particular week (the last one I found) is a trend and it has gone down even more since. I have a feeling that this is probably just a burp and that it will be back to it's 2.3. I still keep my fingers crossed as I think that the only way for anything to change will be for the show to get spanked. I may not like how they respond to a potential spanking, but I am more than willing to take that risk even if that meant that Nuke got shipped to Washington, DC. Great schools!!

NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEK OF MARCH 3-MARCH 7, 2008 1. The Young and the Restless CBS 4.0/13 2. The Bold and the Beautiful CBS 2.9/10 3. General Hospital ABC 2.3/07 4. Days of Our Lives NBC 2.2/07 4. While I think that the Nuke

While I think that the Nuke treatment and puppet fisting slowed the camel, I think the news of Martha's exit (along with the subsequent kicking of her by Goutman and all) is the straw that's breaking the camel's back. Plus, in many markets, Days runs opposite of ATWT, and ATWT losses have been Days gains, as Days has been awesome lately.

Personally, I can't help but smile and hope the downward spiral of ATWT continues. Which is odd for me, cause I'm not a vindictive person really...but ATWT and P&G and CBS have just torked me off to a point of no return.

That Particular Week....

.... ALL soaps were down, not just ATWT. It happens every year in March because of basketball tornaments where soaps are pre-empted by local stations choosing to show BB games instead. Last week, with the tourney's airing only nationally, all soaps rebounded (except AMC) and ATWT is back at 2.3 and in 3rd place. Take a look:

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 5,522,000 (+273,000/+219,000)
2. B&B 4,095,000 (+235,000/+333,000)
3. ATWT 3,198,000 (+146,000/+146,000)
4. GH 2,988,000 (+122,000/-376,000)
5. DAYS 2,950,000 (+306,000/+212,000)
6. GL 2,667,000 (+66,000/-10,000)
7. OLTL 2,648,000 (+146,000/-376,000)
8. AMC 2,515,000 (-31,000/-518,000)

HH
1. Y&R 3.9/13 (+.1/-.2)
2. B&B 2.9/10 (+.1/same)
3. ATWT 2.3/8 (+.1/same)
3. GH 2.3/7 (+.1/-.4)
5. DAYS 2.2/7 (+.2/same)
6. AMC 2.0/6 (same/-.4)
6. OLTL 2.0/6 (same/-.4) <------ ties low rating
8. GL 1.9/6 (same/-.2)

So let's not celebrate ATWT's downfall quite yet.

thanks for clearing that up.

what is the data in the parenthesis ?

It Means That.....

The first number refers to how much a soap is up or down since last week. As you can see, all soaps (except AMC) are up from last week. The second number refers to how much a soap is up or down since last year. ATWT (and all CBS soaps) are up from last year. As we all know, ATWT was one of the few soaps to build on it's audience over the last year. And even they admit it's in part to the Luke/Noah storyline.

Hope this helps!

Don't drop the Noah and Luke storyline.

Definitely keep Noah and Luke's storyline but change it up a bit by letting  them be a couple in love.  Today Jack and Carly kissed more than Luke and Noah did on Monday and they are the couple in love.  Bring some realism back to what started out as a great story and we know a ratings winner.

ATWT ratings blip

The blip on the ratings, if there is one would have to be attributed to Martha Leaving. I would imagine that after inventing the roll, and living that part for 20 years, she would take a lot of fans with her on the way out the door.

But the 'quit day' for Nuke fans is arbitrary. Some left on February 14th, Each dumb twist in the plot knocks off a few more, personally I was only waiting for the Parker trial to end. And as the recent influx of new posters on the subject at AfterElton shows, for every queer that drops the show, 10 more new viewers are starting to watch because of the media attention. And they say that they like what they see.

The gay viewers, are outnumbered by 'die hard fans.' These are fans who could give a rats ass if a gay couple are treated fairly or as a stereotype. These are fans who can smugly tell their husband that they watch a show where two men kiss. These are fans who would rather not actually have to see them kiss unless their husband is actually sitting in the room so that they can blog about his reaction.

Whether ATWT ever did anything right is not the point. Weather there is a kissing ban, is not the point. The question is why is there a ban? P&G has said that it is for artistic reasons. I kinda believe them. I believe that it's because P&G has done market research outside of the AFA and they found that women want a couple of eunuchs to protect them while their husbands are away at work. This is an award worthy Fair and Inclusive representation of gay love.

ATWT seems to want to push the AFA, or they wouldn't have had a couple have sex in a church sanctuary. I doubt that scene was suppose to be a finger raised to P&G or even the AFA, because like a Luke and Noah Kiss, Vienna and Henry change their minds at the last minute.

Martha Byrne...dismissed!?!

OMG...I can't watch ATWT regularly, but I've been watching it for almost 30 years on and off (Meg Ryan caught my attention...hehehe). Anyway, first no Nuke kisses and now no Lilly??? I really am bummed out! Course, knowing the the soap world, at some point they could bring her back. Let's just hope that it's Martha Byrne and not a replacement.

rumor has it

rumor has it that while Martha Byrne is leaving, Lilly has been recast and will remain a part of the show.

Just like the zooming plot twist of a soap opera!
