News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Tonight on Medium the Sick Evil Gay Killer is Back! Thank You NBC.

Tonight on NBC one of my favorite shows sunk to a level I found shocking, hurtful and appalling. I have loved Medium since it debuted in 2005, but after tonight I honestly don’t know if I will ever be able to watch it again!

The story this evening had to do with a series of murders, the murders of young, very attractive, straight men. Our resident psychic (Patricia Arquette) keeps dreaming about a beautiful middle-aged woman played by her sister Roseanna Arquette who is seducing these young men, having hot sex with them and then murdering them in gruesome ways... nail guns … hunting knives … etc. We later learn that beautiful Roseanna is a writer, whose books teach middle aged woman to seduce and bed young men. Well, after an hour we find out (as if we didn’t see this coming at the half way point) that the killer is a middle aged man (Roseanna’s publisher) who is using her techniques to seduce and turn these straight hunks, bed them and then butcher them.  By the way, he gets caught because he tries to seduce the virile male policeman co-star of the show.

How many homophobic panic myths does this storyline play into?? I cannot believe that NBC, the producers including Kelsey Grammer, the writers and the Arquette sisters would approve this storyline in 2008.

Did anybody else see this crap? Please write or email NBC and tell them how you feel. Am I just being over-sensitive because right now I am pissed-off!!!

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"

How tragic.  I'm watching this series in rerun now, and haven't seen any of the new season.  You are aware, I imagine, that one of Patricia Arquette's brothers is the fabulous Alexis Arquette, who is a transgendered actress.  Her other brother is the less fabulous David Arquette, Mr. Courteney Cox.

Brotherly Love

Yes, I know that the Arquette sisters brother is the fab Alexis, that is one of the reasons I am so shocked that they didnt feel that there was anything wrong with this stroyline.

If you have been watching

If you have been watching this show since the first season, you must also realize that it has followed dozens of other serial killers, none of which were gay.  This specific case provided an unexpected twist to the storyline that I found to be clever.

I doubt that many straight men banned the show because 99% of the killers thus far on this show were straight.

I did not take offense to the episode in the least.  The usage of the gay angle provided intrigue and shock.  It wasn't designed to bash gay men and make us all out to be sociopaths.   I think that your ire is misguided.
