From PGP Soapbox(the official PGP Message Boards) official P&G mind you! :}
I'm not sure but these ratings seem almost as bad as the lowest since 2006!!!
Suppose P&G PTB will get the message? Or are they just too chickenshit to get with it?
So you may have been more right that you were given credit for! Ha!
I have the indescribable urge to say 'The Truth is Out There' or 'The Truth Will Be Revealed'! lol

Yep, Ratings Are Falling.....
TPTB ...Twitburgers?
Certainly the entire CBS lineup has lost viewers. However, I think that it is possible for an individual show to hold its own or gain viewers. The complaints about all the soaps are numerous. DOOL however has seen a resurgence with the change in writers. So this shows that it is a show's content that is important to viewers. And I agree with you about the s/l's, loss of core characters and the revolving door of actors is an underlying cause.
ATWT has had a unique opportunity with the Luke and Noah s/l, but P&G has failed to capitalize on it. And this is what bothers me the most. The seeming complete lack of ambition on the part of TPTB to want to increase their ratings. I cannot understand why, with so many complaints on so many message boards about the s/l's on all of these soap operas that somebody doesn't get the point. The audience that they all do have, have made themselves very clear and yet no one seems to be listening at all. Why? What imbecile deliberately sabatages their own shows? This is something I cannot figure out and it makes me crazy. I haven't watched soaps for a decade and I am just stunned at how they have deteriorated and how incompetent everyone producing and writing them seems to have become. It shouldn't take a genious to figure this stuff out and it shouldn't take a genious to figure out that you have to listen to your audience. After all they are the ones watching or not watching for a reason! Settling for a core audience and nothing more ... I just don't get it! I sometimes think that all of these shows need to lose the executives who are making the overall decisions first. Somebody needs to clean house and get in some people with brains and nerve!
The problem is industry wide. So how come they all can't seem to see it?
"You bit the hand, Marty, You bit the hand!"
TPTB ...Twitburgers?
No, not for celebration. But for sadness. If things continue this way, the Daytime Drama will go the way of the dinosaur. And I just don't see a reason why that has to happen!
"You bit the hand, Marty, You bit the hand!"
Genre'd to Death
I think that the problem is just that the soaps aren't very imaginative anymore. While the rest of television has evolved and changed with the times the soaps seem mired in the past. A long-standing soap like ATWT just retreads the same plot devices over and over again because they're a part of the soap genre. But newer viewers don't get into it.
As I said on another thread, American soaps are very plot-driven as opposed to character driven. This means that characters' personalities may veer around wildly as they do inexplicable things so as to conform to the plot, rather than the plot conforming to the personalities of the characters.
The problem with this is that it becomes hard to emotionally connect to the characters. Like I've found it very hard to stay connected to Nuke because they're really written as two-dimensional cutouts. They behave oddly so that plot lines can be carried forward even if they make no sense, and neither do the characters' actions in response to them. Eventually I just stopped caring about them as characters and since the plot itself is trite and derivative I lost all interest in following the show.
This, I think, is a more general phenomenon afflicting the soaps.
ATWT ratings
Listen, there has been a huge vocal core of outraged Nuke fans that P&G wish would either go away or shut up. I stopped pretending if they cared that I was one of their demographics a long time ago. I don't have the right opinion for them.
ATWT has a new reality show that is going to heavily feature Van and Jake this summer, if the promos are any indication. I'd guess the current ratings plunge is the tidal wave of Martha's wake and the general poor story telling. They had a bunch of stories tie up at the same time, which is just stupid! Perfect time to split.
This summer they plan to entice a new group of teen girls who will be drawn to the kewl gay "boys" through the reality show. Those kids will more than make up for the likes of me, disgruntled gay and gay friendly fans who are leaving.
P&G is so stupid. If they
P&G is so stupid. If they had a Nuke love scene a la Christian & Olli from Forbidden Love the ratings would be absolutely off the charts.
