AfterElton's New LookI have a few comments about AfterElton's new look. Pros Homepage is better organized. My Account section is better looking. Forums section is organized and looks good. Blue and gray letter colors match with the AfterElton logo. Avatars fit in their given space. Alternating light gray and white color scheme differentiating two posts or names. Cons The AfterElton logo at the top of the blog page looks cheap with the gray surrounding it. Gray line separating Latest Blog Post side and Latest Video side. White space is larger than the gray space in the alternating color scheme. The gray size looks better. Information under a blog posting is too small. I preferred the old style except the tags part which is fine. Submitted by Evan (2890 points) (574 posts) on Thu, 2008-04-17 21:26. |

Thanks for the feedback, Evan.
After-Change
It will be interesting to see what benifits arise out of the re-vamp. I am fairly sure that it is not solely about your decorator gene. I pretty much concur with Evan's assessment. I might add that I miss some of the bolding as the font size appears lightweight now to add the white space.
I know how hard it is to deal with all these develepment issues, and appreciate all your hard work that currently benefit AE.
After Elton is an important part of my internet experience.
Thanks guys, high-fives all around
The new site - looking good

I was hoping a re-vamp might include a function for finding old posts. I am often surprised to stumble across a reply to something I wrote days or even weeks earlier, and I don't know how to check for old posts other than by this less than foolproof method.
Otherwise, I am sure I will get used to the new look, but it is a lot busier in appearance than the old.

Thanks so much

I thought I had looked everywhere. Thanks, Evan.
A bit lost..
All in all I like the new look! I have some problem finding my way around though. I found this section about the new look by chance - clicking on everything clickable). Also, sometimes you can reply to a post by clicking 'quote', sometimes you can't.
Similar to afhickman, it's not easy to find replies to your posts or replies to one specific thread. I know about 'My account' - 'track', but even there I don't understand it all. When it says there are x new posts, how do I see quickly which ones are the new ones when I open the thread?
How do I find certain blogs quickly? When I click on 'Blog' (in the top line - next to 'TV', 'Movies' and so on) it gives me a page full of info, but I can't necessarily find 'Michael's Blog' (about Forbidden Love for ex. ..) or 'Brian's Blog' or what do I do wrong?
I'm also agreeing with the poster who said that you never stay 'logged in'. When I leave AfterElton.com and come back I have to log back in again. And when I want my login/password to be remembered, it doesn't remember..
Hope this does not sound too negative. I love AfterElton.com!!
Edit: [just lost 5 points] - yes, em, what's with the point counting? The post count is good, but the points I don't understand. I keep editing my own posts and keep losing points - it doesn't really matter, but it's frustrating all the same.. *smile*
Edit2: When I read old threads/blogs it doesn't say when they were posted (date). Or am I blind?
Thanks for the feedback!
Bookmarks!
Thank you Michael!
One more thing - bookmarking threads doesn't work with me. When I click on my bookmarks I have a page full of 'Chinese' illegible html jumble.. It has a nice crimson-coloured background, but it's no good for finding bookmarked threads! ;o)
BTW, love AE!! ;o))))

Some comments I have
In the column on the right side of the screen that lists the most recent posts, it would great if not only did it give you the title of the post, but the thread in which it is posted.
Is it possible to remain logged in for more than just 2 hours? Perhaps it's a minor quibble, but I hate having to log in every time I visit the site.
Currently, I'm having difficulty accessing Snicks' blog about Les Bleus from last week; only half the screen is coming up and I'm not able to see any of the comments posted to the thread.
Check out my blog: http://radicalsexy.blogspot.com/
I'm having problems, too.
I'm having the same problem Joseph is with this URL:

BTW, Joseph I did manage to see your comment before the link stopped working. Thanks for letting me know about A Love to Hide. I haven't seen the movie, although I think I must have recognized your profile pic from the trailer.
Hmm, I can see the post just fine. Are you in IE or Mozilla? As
Internet Explorer
this is weird, but....
Ok, sometimes i want to highlight a sentence or quote if i want to reply....and now, when i try to highlight something, the whole page is highlighted.
can someone else try to highlight a sentence? I want to make sure it's either just me and if it's not just me...then that is probably an issue with the new look somehow.
Highlighting
I have the same problem when I try to highlight a sentence. The entire page is highlighted and I don't know how to avoid. It seems to be an unfortunate "side effect" of the new look.

Thanks. I'll have tech look into this one ASAP
Highlighting and 'Recent comments'..
Liz, I have the same problem!
I have an additonal remark. How come the 'Recent comments' are never really recent. It takes up to 30+ minutes for a comment I posted to be seen under 'Recent comments'. Pushing the 'refresh' button does not help.

Everything on the site is "cached" when it's posted from
OK.
Thank you Michael. I don't know what "cached" is, but it's ok. I was just wondering..

Forum Topics
I like the new look. It's easier on the eyes.
An unrelated request:
AfterElton has community forums Topics for Movies, T.V., Books, etc. Could I suggest a Topic for 'Internet' which might hold discussion of blogs, online news, YouTube, etc.
