Could the Nuke storyline be on the way out?Believe it or not, but I have been seeing some rumors on the web that CBS may be planning on dumping the current Nuke storyline. Before you all aim your rifles at me, this is what I have been seeing. CBS is getting a lot of heat from P & G for opening this can of worms since the 2nd Nuke kiss last year. I agree that ATWT should be commended for introducing a gay "love" story on daytime TV, but they have done nothing but turn it into one of the sorriest attempts in daytime TV. They are currently getting hit from all sides with the way they have handled it and now it's become an embarassment. The word is they are looking for an "easy" way to scuttle this fiasco they have created. With the Nuke storyline going nowhere, it could very well be just a matter of time before they dump it. Next week's 2nd kiss between Noah and Ameera is going to do nothing but infuriate the audience even more. Even though Van Hansis has been resigned to a new contract, there are rumors that he could be introduced in other storylines. Jake is still on the 13 week contracts and who knows about Tala. The clock could very well be ticking on the demise of Nuke. Submitted by dannydc (890 points) (180 posts) on Sat, 2008-04-19 10:32. |

hmm
It wouldn't surprise me.
look, Some argue "well, at least we have SOMETHING" and I just wanna say "no, you have nothing. Luke is gay...has a boyfriend....but that's IT"
I'm not a gay man, but I think lots of people on AE were excited for Nuke because they thought they were going to watch another version of themselves...something to relate to. Hell, I like any positive version of the lgbt community on tv. I'm a part of it.
If the P & G or whatever has *SUCH* a problem with two guys kissing, then WHY in the hell did they even "allow" luke to be gay in the first place? why did they even give the greenlight to let noah be a love interest for luke?
I think something needs to change. Noah needs to die or leave town, because a showing of a kiss is obviously so offensive that it won't be shown. Luke...well, they might as well have him leave town or something as well.
Another thing....I think it's insulting that the actors have no say whatsoever in their storylines. I bet if van or jake could get even 2 words in, I bet this wouldn't be so horrendous.
Nuke'em, it's over anyway
Actually, I would argue that Luke doesn't have a boyfriend. Luke's gay and he has a buddy who's kinda/maybe interested but not to the extent that he's prepared to set aside his utter devotion to a random girl that came wandering in out of nowhere with a lame sob story.
The current Nuke thing reminds me a lot of the way that they handled Matt Fielding on Melrose Place way back in the early 90's. He was openly gay but mysteriously unable to meet men (despite being quite hot) and when he did meet a man something almost invariably came between before they'd even gone out a few times. Matt also did an illicit immigration marriage (I think his was Russian), although they eventually sent her back to Russia to care for her sick mother or something and Matt went back to being bf-less.
My big concern is that Noah may become an "ex-gay" storyline, which would certainly appease the AFA crowd. They could decide that he's "bi" or that his thing with Luke was just a random blip in his sexuality and keep him with Ameera. Luke could be used in other storylines without giving him any real onscreen relationships the same way Matt was on Melrose. Indeed, the main reason I find all this so irritating is that it's so regressive.
ATWT has done their self-congratulatory bit of patting themselves on the back. Plus GLAAD gave them an award for their progressiveness. Now they can escape this whole mess cleanly by dumping their vaunted gay "supercouple". The whole thing has been almost painfully 80's/90's anyway. This sort of thing might have been considered groundbreaking back on Dynasty or Melrose Place 15-20 years ago, but today it's just a demonstration of spineless producers caving in to homophobia.
As I've said in the past, a lame un-affectionate straight couple identical to Nuke in every other respect besides being gay would never be tolerated by straight viewers. They would demand improvement or elimination. I feel the same. If Nuke aren't going to get any better then they need to go away. Better that than an "being gay is a choice" storyline.
jason and samantha on GH....
there actually was a straight couple (jason and samantha) on GH a few years back who never had any intimate scenes and fans (i was one of them) were pissed off. we spoke up and they heard. :-P
Kelly Monaco was one half of the couple. Even she and her co-star were getting sick of it and guess what? they spoke the hell up and a month or so later...we finally saw some sweet, intimate scenes with them.
I really wish Van would just throw his hands up and be all "peace out bitches" because he deserves better. anyone would.
About noah barely being a boyfriend to luke...gotta say, you got a point...but as for de-gaying him or something.....I highly doubt they'll go that far. GLAAD and fans would be so far up their ass for that, they'd be sweating tennis balls. That'd be more offensive I think.
No
I agree Goldie I was
I Don't Think So....
Summer may save Puke for now
Sounds like anoter dumb Nuke rumor
This is another big dumb rumor. I'd be very interested in hearing where it came from. A lot of rabid fans have brought up this exact same rumor on several occasions in order to threaten people. "Quit complaining or they will cancel the show!!! and it will be all your fault!!!"
"CBS may be planning on dumping the current Nuke storyline." CBS has no control what so ever over this or any story-line. They do not own the show, they buy the right to air the show.
P&G own, create and are responsible for the content of the show. The only thing CBS can do is cancel the entire show. Seeing that they just signed for another year AND the show is in third place, it ain't going to happen.
P&G have shown no remorse nor made any attempt to direct the show in anyway then sticking with what they have been doing since last fall. I wouldn't be surprised if their current polls indicate that there is significant displeasure in the current story, and not just this one, and fans may be fixing to leave in large enough numbers that will be hard to replace. ATWT could loose out during Sweeps Week. If this rumor is coming from P&G, they are obviously trying to rally the troops for Sweeps Week.
"The word is they are looking for an "easy" way to scuttle this fiasco they have created." Please quote where you heard that word. They seem to have already cut the Ameera story short, but I don't think anyone, P&G included, expected Ameera to last for 12 months. They would be smart to look for a way to end her story sooner than later. I agree that the second kiss will upset fans. ABC will probably take some heat for that, as well as P&G.
The producers have screwed up this story, no doubt about it. Many of the fans have been complacent. But since Nuke brought them the highest ratings ever, P&G would be dumb to dump Noah. However, that would be an honorable thing to do; they have proven they are cowards unable to tell an honest gay love story.
.
They aren't going
They aren't going anywhere. Too many of the gays are still watching and they can't afford to lose those viewers. Plus, Nuke is one of the more popular couples on the soap, regardless of the complaints that they're getting from a few moronic rednecks and P and G.
Instead, they'll continue to neuter them. No kissy-kissy, No hissy-hissy.
Perhaps they'll just kill off Noah, send Luke to a monastary and explore his transformation into the eunuch he already is.
They will keep Luke around
I don't see any reason for them to remove the character of Luke. He's such a newsmaker, that it would be stupid to write him out. They might remove Noah, though. As much as I admire Jake Silbermann's talent and the respect he has for his role, I would not be bothered if Luke and Noah broke up. I actually wouldn't mind if Luke had a different boyfriend for a while. This time I would like a guy chasing Luke, instead of the other way around.

A shirtless Casey dominated today's ATWT episode
I say Luke should get it opn with him for real.
Triangle Coming???
The Ameera story is on the way out fairly soon. It was never intended to be long lasting, she was just there as the "plot device", as Brian always refers to her in his blogs. So the question is, what next??? I'd love to see Nuke finally being happy together for a short time (happiness never lasts on a soap longer than a "short time"), and then they have a fight or something about the time that another hot guy at Oakdale U. goes after one of them. It was great last year when Luke and Noah met up with another pair of guys before a party. The one guy was totally hot for Noah. I wish they would have extended those glimpses into the gay culture of the area a bit more. But another guy trying to come between Nuke wouldn't lack for dramatic tension.
What scares me is that with summer coming they'll do more outside filming. I've noticed that there appear to be a different group of writers and directors that handle the outdoor stuff. And they are HORRIBLE. That serial killer at summer camp thing (the year Luke was first coming out) was the most ineptly written and directed thing I may have ever seen on TV. It would be more than frustrating to get a nice triangle story and then ruin it with abysmal writing.
