After Elton is crashing my computer

I just sent an email to comments at, because my browser (firefox) was crashing whenever I tried to view any of the vlogs on AfterElton.

However, I decieded to test another browser, (Safari) to troubleshoot if it was Firefox that was having the problem. My computer crashed, not just the browser. I think this is pretty serious, because while everyone knows that you can lose data and information when your computer crashes it can also do serious damage to your hard drive.

Any one else haveing problems with the vlogs?  I have never enabled an RSS feed or anything like that. Some of the advertizements seemed to require way too much in order to download.

I'm curious if anyone else is having problems with the vlogs, or crashing?

Thanks for looking into this. I did report it to Veoh as well.

I had downloaded the newest Firefox when this started to happen. But I didn't reset it, if that's the right term. I didn't quit and restart my computer. After I turned it off and restarted this morning I tried to see a veoh vid on AfterElton and there was no problem. I don't know if AfterElton or Veoh made any changes, but I do want to suggest to anyone is having problems with Firefox. To turn off and restart your computer to fully reset the browser.

I also see that many of your vlogs are now using logoonline.com to host the vids. It seems so much smarter to have control over the media for your own work, I hope that works better for you and us.

After Elton Goes Crazy!

I hadn't had any trouble with the new format -- until last night. When I went to the site my browser went crackers, opening windows all over the screen. I kept trying to close them, but it wouldn't stop and I could never get to the front screen. I finally had to force-quit. I went back a few hours later and it did it again. The day before and all previous days -- no problem.

I'm hoping this is a temporary thing, caused by an annoying ad (some of the windows screamed "Rainbow Getaway" at the top -- I'm assuming that's some busy, screaming advertisement), but this really is giving me anxiety. I can't tell you how many sites I (and my old, but still workable, computer) have been shut out of because of so-called "improvements" -- much of Bravo and all of the OutZone are "forbidden territory" because my computer can't handle "Flash" or whatever. All I want to to do is READ the articles. I could care less about fancy video and ads that come leaping out at you. The written content is what I come for. The thought of being shut out of it is dreadful.

Please have some compassion for loyal readers who can't afford the latest bells and whistles. I sometimes feel that it's almost a clsss issues -- those who can afford all the new technology and those of us who have to "make do" with what we have because we need any extra cash for things like food, rent, and gas. I'm starting to feel like my elderly mother who was informed by her local newspaper that they'd no longer be including the TV listings in the paper (she'd been a subscriber for over 50 years), but she could look them up "on line." She called me crying because she doesn't have a computer or a cellphone and can only just work the remote! I know exactly how she feels.

Just to add that I'm writing this on a friend's computer.

Back in...

Sunday and Monday -- shut out! But today I clicked on the site with my fingers crossed -- and no AE going crazy! I was so relieved, seriously! I think it must have been that banner ad, rather than anything else on the site. But this really told me how much I depend on AE for information, as well as being a safe place to hang out and post. The thought of not being able to access it had me reaching for the Xanax. Thanks.

Don't know if this helps but

When I get everything working the way I want, I NEVER update anything. I find that causes more trouble than the updates are ever worth. And I always run a pop-up blocker, you can always disable it for a one time thing if need be. I have a firewall on all the time, and I always use Firefox.

Of course some geek is bound to disagree with me, but this works for me. Also, don't EVER let a teenager use your computer. (they always want to "fix" things and it takes me a week to "un-fix")

I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.

I haven't updated anything

I haven't updated anything -- I can't really update. I'm at the limit of the machine's ability. That's the problem. I'm using Netscape, which is like saying you are driving a horse and buggy, but it's what my old computer can handle and it and After Elton have been friends up until now.

And no teenagers, either. No one else but me.
