Need a little help finding a special expression

Hello everybody,

I am writing a novel where one of my protagonists lives in New York in the early 1970s.

He meets Andy Warhol at the silver factory.

He does not not if he is straight or gay.

He thinks of all the gay men he met, when he is back in germany.

How can I call them? I want to write about active sexual gays, trying out what they want to have, having a lot of one night stands...

Is there a specian name I could use?

This question is serious, and I hope I find an answer here.
